As the fash watch I assume you are familiar with the ways corporations and people in power chipping away at the requirement to prove defamation in order to use the threat of lawsuits to silence those covering them.

Defamation predates the 1st amendment. But i assume you mean modern day defamation and I’d urge you to pay attention to how power people and companies are using defamation suits to go after media trying to cover them such as with Gawker case or Trump’s WSJ case

I think when people say “the Democratic party” they’re talking about the people who have influence within the party. The network of politicians and donors that wield the kind of influence that can push or suppress media narratives or pressure Joe Biden to drop out, for example.
