one of my pet peeves in games is narrative urgency that's undermined by incentivized collection gameplay. When the story is telling the player 'You urgently need to save someone/something!', collect-a-thon map icons are just going to pull you out of acting your part authentically
I don’t agree with the original tweet; for instance, recoilers in Qud are important and have an appropriate cost. The real problem IMO is that “open world” has become a design “feature” and something that is done as a matter of course and not as a thoughtful aspect of a holistic design.

The answer is, I'm going to continue animating. I'm going to continue learning.
And I'm going to try to accept that taking on part time work outside of the industry isn't failure. Just a new experience. And every new experience makes me a better artist.

And every day the job market is flooded with even more laid off devs, a lot of whom are more experienced than me.
