Wellsβ was an investigative journalist who is rarely described as one.
There's a shiny new episode of Starship Alexandria, in which @aptshadow.bsky.social and I discuss the classic novel The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester. starshipalexandria.com/episode-11-t...
Hey.
Tell people when they do good job.
When you like the stuff they make.
When you like the characters theyβve created.
The stories theyβve told.
Nobody hears it as often as you think bc everyone thinks everyone hears it all the time.
Trust. They donβt.
Tell. Them.
Support human made art + stories, and delve into a world of fantasy as a healthy reframing of life and reset of your mental state.
We call AI output slop not because it's incapable of regurgitating something beautiful, but because vomiting up chunks of mixed restaurant meals is not the same as being a chef. That some of the upchuck can still be parsed as it was on the plate is not thanks to digestion or emesis, but to cooking.
"Human writing often includes some clunky phrases, like this passage from Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, caused by the author's aversion to punctuation: 'As well ask men what they think of stone.'"
This is the stupidest g.d. thing I have read all day.
This is how we know John Adams would have been highly resistant to poster's madness
A black cat with shiny green eyes near a wood box at night
A handsome longhaired tabby cat with gold eyes sits on a (cold) woodstove top
Same kitty, side view
The face of a different tabby, with calico patches and long whiskers
I love cats. Just look at these perfect little things, with their soft little heads, expressive, shiny eyes, the way they purr. Cats are good.
Pixar was the single handed most misogyny I ever experienced to my face in my life, stemming from my work being "too girlish" with an insinuated, but never directly stated "and too gay", while also complaining that I was perplexing for not behaving like their perception of a normal "woman"
Listen, @lataco.bsky.social set the stage for how to report on ICE. They deserve the backup!
everyone is short tempered and crashing out because the world is a mess.
no one can emotionally regulate in the face of Everything.
please be gentle with yourselves and others.
It's okay to not enjoy a genre. Most people have genres they aren't into!
But you have to jump a pretty large gulf to get from "I don't like this" to "Other people reading this are ruining literature."
When I see someone slagging people reading Romance, I just assume it's misogyny.
Can it be for other reasons? Of course. Yet when I actually engage with the hater, it usually turns out to be the case.
reminded of my most dad coded political opinion which is that we need a universal Naps and Lil Snacks For All program
Most accurate portrait of modern culture currently available
Honestly, the sooner you can unlearn jealousy and envy as reactions to othersβ success, the better off youβll be.
There are better ways to motivate yourself to succeed than hoping that your peers donβt.
Digital art of an illustration. A woman with porcelain skin is like hanging in the void, wrapped in dark fabric with golfen sparkles. Her long red hair float and swirl behind her.
I can't compete with this.
Yes I am aware that he is a politician. Yet these days when a cis person says in public that they love trans children (or any trans people, really) I choke up a little bit
I'm so tired of "whimsical", as used to describe any writing that isn't wholly dark and humourless. It's become such a lazy and fashionable word. We live in dark times, but that means we need writing that makes us laugh more than ever. "Whimsical", to me, often feels like a way to undermine that.
Theyβre literally pushing out Black women to make sure they can try to permanently staff the federal government with white supremacists.
an important reminder that "hacking" rarely involves typing real fast as green text scrolls by and mostly involves asking people for their login info in increasingly sophisticated ways
human psychology is a lot easier to manipulate than code, be very careful with anyone asking for credentials
This didn't happen. The perception that it did is largely based on fictional shows that were about rich people. Much more common was a household where one person (theoretically Dad in a het household) was the higher earner and paid the housing costs and the other paid utilities & food
Dyke Knights! Now in colour!
Literally every good digital music producer of the last 20 years has been working from a cracked torrent copy of Ableton on an old busted laptop. Digital production was already democratized and AIgen tools are parasitic free riders on all that hard work. Tourist safari shit
I understand that there's always this sort of creeping fear that something is "dying" out, that a form or style is going extinct I guess? What are we supposed to do? run away from something if it's not currently popular?
My answer these days is just okay? I hope they find other books in the POV they like? Sometimes I write first, sometimes I write third sometimes I write in second.
Enjoy. I can't really change the book I've already written and I'm not a burger restaurant so I can't make books to order?
This is so disappointing, especially for someone who never writes in first person.
