Joy: Alan Cumming (in general) but his look of snarky revulsion at Tom Sandoval’s sincere belief that he’s musically gifted and his singing is virtuosic.
Jeremy: What was the best part of ABBA tonight?
Jeremy: Listening to Tori [Amos] on the way home!
Bright spot: Window open, birdsong, The Sundays on, stamping away on my books, making ambitious plans (in my mind).
Bright spot: From the library of…
For my book-cataloging project.
Familiar with Sylvia Plath, I’m guessing? Emily Dickinson?
Are there any places left to shop for common, everyday things?
Also Claudia Rankine is great. If you want to borrow any or come over and peruse, you’re more than welcome!
Are you interested in any particular themes? Contemporary poets or more “classics”? My queen is Anne Carson, but she’s not for everyone. I’ve gifted my favorite book of hers to several people and they all said they couldn’t get through it! Ada Limón is widely appreciated (current US Poet Laureate).
Slowly cataloging and organizing my books. I’ve completed 9 cubbies, have 23 more to go, and am currently at 530 books. These days, reading full books, and a wide variety, with differing opinions, is a radical act. Shelf 1: Plays, film studies, overflow poetry. Shelf 2: Poetry.

Sometimes when I say I’m working on music, I mean I’m struggling (and also enjoying) to learn how to play pieces on the piano. This is my janky attempt at the first 12 measures of Eric Satie’s “Gymnopédie (No. 1).” One day, in a million years, I’ll be able to play the full thing.
