And Muscovites!
"Ever since A. Sumarokov translated Hamlet into Russian in 1748, Russian intelligentsia has been passionate about the works of Shakespeare. Shakespeare even inspired Alexander Pushkin, Anton Chekhov and Boris Pasternak."

Aye, very suspicious.
Surprised by the different translations! "Disappointed" is milder than "bitterly".
“I have yielded:
Instruct my daughter how she shall persevér,
That time and place, with this deceit so lawful,
May prove coherent.”

I posted the English tr. of this sentence!
Note: G-tr. of your German tr.: “Disappointed, he realized how fragile everything he had built up in the long & bitter struggle of years truly was, &, gritting his teeth, he accepted that he too--though tall and strong--was now, (1/2)
in a sense, at the end of his rope.” (2/2)

Bitterly, he decided that all the order he had patiently, painstakingly constructed over the years was proving highly fragile, and it gave him even more pain to realize that he himself...was also on the verge of collapse

First Lord:
O, for the love of laughter, let him fetch his drum;
he says he has a stratagem for't: when your
lordship sees the bottom of his success in't, and to
what metal this counterfeit lump of ore will be
melted,
“he’s a most notable coward,
an infinite and endless liar, an hourly promise-breaker, the owner of no one good quality worthy of your lordship’s entertainment.”

I certainly felt like I could smell the rain and taste the mud too! A+ writing. Also reminded me of the Oregon winter's incessant rain (visited some family once- will never forget watching my aunt garden blissfully in the downpour.)
It was hard making progress in the mud and what was worse he could barely see his way in the darkness....
III #SatantangoTogether This doctor's bringing me down- hope Irimias & Petrina return soon.
I'll be reading my high school copy, Folger Shakespeare Library, 1957 edition. Flipped through for the first time in many years to find a folded up final notes for the New York Regents Exam for English Literature! Tempus fugit 🕰️
First pages of Jack Sprat, 17th century English nursery rhyme.
Parolles' true character revealed, Bertram reconsidering Helena, ... and sprat is a small fish or contemptible creature (only other time I've heard this word was Jack Sprat nursery rhyme.)

I want to nestle at the base of a giant tree, with forest air surrounding me. (Just saw for 2d time, loved it more.)
Hamlet ok with you too, @thepaleusher.bsky.social ?
"The Other Alexander" (1950) looks good too. Alas, only 3 of 4 novels are in English.

What shall we read after #AllsWell_2026 ?
I am leaning towards Hamlet, especially being obsessed with #Hamnet movie. However, a proper comedy would be great after these dark, challenging #TheBard_ProblemPlays ....

Good point about the speed. The text looks turgid and intimidating on the page yet also pushes me relentlessly forward (sometimes searching for a period). These characters are mired in rain and mud and helplessness. Not sure their situation can be described in orderly paragraphs. #SatantangoTogether
