It might not be the most eye catching but we think the name Clouded Drab rather under sells its qualities. #mothsmatter

Native flower Dandelion is an important early nectar source for butterflies. Our Secret Gardener lists more plants that support butterflies at this time of year.https://buff.ly/JgVFKarπ· Pete Clark
1 Small Tortoiseshell & 4 Peacocks at Upton Marshes yesterday. Stunning day to visit the Norfolk Broads. #savebutterflies
A butterfly is shown nectaring on tiny pink and white Heather flowers. The Red Admiral is a dark brown butterfly with a bright red stripe on its wings.
A butterfly is basking on the brown gravel stones of our driveway. The Comma is an orange butterfly with dark brown markings across its distinctively shaggy wings.
A butterfly can be seen among the white blossom above our heads, nectaring. Its wing shape and dark colouration show it is a Peacock butterfly. Against the blue sky and in the sunny conditions, its wing markings of blue, yellow, and black eyes pots can just be made out. It was one of two nectaring in the Cherry Plum trees along the lane.
Warm and sunny since breakfast time - Red Admiral, Comma, 2 Peacock and (not shown, as on the wing) 3 male Brimstone.. @norfolkbutterflies.bsky.social
1st butterfly visitor of the year to my North Norfolk garden yesterday, a Peacock before the mist came in. Have you had any butterflies in your garden yet this year? #savebutterflies
Great image
You need to look closely to appreciate the beauty of Plume moths and even closer to identify them. Beautiful Plume moths are flying at the moment, one of 44 species in GB & I. #mothsmatter
The bright yellow, distinctively shaped wing of a male Brimstone butterfly nectaring on a purple Crocus flower in our garden today heralds spring. It has been sunny and warm all day.
Just so wonderful to have had three visits today from a male Brimstone, and now a Red Admiral is on the wing... @norfolkbutterflies.bsky.social
Amongst a haul of 62 Common Quakers, also in my moth trap this morning an Oak Beauty, Small Brindled Beauty & Grey Shoulder-knot. 10 species in total. #mothsmatter
Punched the air with joy, my 1st butterfly sighting of the year. The unmistakable sight of a Brimstone flying in front of the car this morning near Blickling. #savebutterflies
Great to feel the energy & enthusiasm for the natural world shown by the young people who talked to us at the Norwich Science Festival yesterday.

On this day in 1809, Charles Darwin, author of 'On the Origin of Species', was born
The humble Peppered Moth is one of the best-known examples of evolution by natural selection, Darwin's great discovery, and is often referred to as 'Darwin's moth'. π‘

Thank you for sharing your images, spring butterflies are always special.
Best of luck with the quest, thank you for sharing the images. It has put a smile on my face, I hope others feel the same.
Grey and damp in N. Norfolk this morning. Time to look back at some of my highlights from 2024. A glance through my images reminded me of my 1st Silver-washed Fritillary in the garden, sightings of Clouded Yellow and ground level encounters with Purple Hairstreak. What were yours? #savebutterflies
When the rain stops what can you be doing to make your garden more attractive for moths & butterflies? buff.ly/BFDDx13

Twice in the last 4 years my 1st butterfly sighting of the year has been on the 27 January. Last year it was a Brimstone, a Peacock in 2022. Not this year I am afraid. π§οΈ #savebutterflies
1st moth trap of the year in my North Norfolk garden. Just one attendee a rather smart Spring Usher. #mothsmatter
You may have seen the Herald moth featured on Winterwatch last week. According to Norfolk Moths this species is widespread across the county and may be hibernating somewhere in a quiet space near you. They normally start to emerge as adults in the Spring. #mothsmatter
Moths are often maligned, we would say unfairly. Start the new year with a fresh perspective on these wonderful creatures. Why do they matter, and what can you do to help them? buff.ly/rcJ7oWP
