Repetition, Development, Unpredictability - and their Displacement to a Different Level. feeo: Goodness In some of feeo's tracks, the main structuring principles of songs are displaced, assigned to different layers: synths, drums, noises. That leaves the listener without the familiar signposts.

A strange kind of displacement takes place in some of feeo's songs: the main structuring principles of songs are assigned to different layers: synths - repetition, drums - development, noises - unpredictability. That leaves the listener without the familiar signposts guiding the listening process.

Music as an Ordinary Activity And Transcendence As A Break in the World - Weirs: Diamond Grove Weirs play (avant)folk songs as if music-making were just one of the ordinary activities of the human world - except when they break the unmediated nature of the songs with radical artificiality.

NZO's music is a joyous examination of fragmentation and continuity. Part of the joy and thrill of her album Come Alive is witnessing her to make continuous lines made up from differing, cut up sounds. She's teasingly asking you: how much fragmentation are you willing to tolerate?

The inability to properly finish a song - Smerz: Big city life The songs on this album all feel slightly unfinished, as if the diversions of the "big city life" made it impossible for the duo to concentrate enough to properly finish a song.

The songs on Smerz's Big city life (on @eschoescho.bsky.social) all feel slightly unfinished, as if the diversions of the "big city life" made it impossible for the duo to concentrate enough to properly finish a song. This inability is embedded in the very structure of the music.

Negotiating the rules of the song and of the community - caroline: caroline 2 Rules are the problem. Either because they exist at all; or because they are hidden. caroline expands the song's expressive potential by working with two approaches at the same time.

Rules are the problem. Either because they exist at all, stifling expression; or because they are hidden, not made explicit. caroline expands the song's expressive potential by working with these two approaches at the same time.

The drone and the song, the tradition and the individual - Bridget Hayden and the Apparitions: Cold Blows the Rain Bridget Hayden's folk album proposes a concept of the song as the expression of individuality within the constraints of tradition, embodied as an unwavering, gentle, yet mournful drone.

The song and the body, the noises and the drums - Daniel Blumberg: GUT This striking album is not just about the body, it gives voice to Body

There _was_ a Hungarian band that started in 1969 as a girl group playing disco, then one guy joined, then more guys joined and more girls left, then it was just guys playing glam rock / hard rock / proto punk. They still exist and the frontman is a staunch supporter of the far right ruling party.
