TBH Iβm hit and miss with Emerson. But this is a terrific cycle. I just wish their Shostakovich was as good as this!

#NowSpinning BartΓ³kβs First String Quartet with the Hungarians. I have not heard this cycle before and will probably compare with others today. Anyone got any thoughts on their favourite BartΓ³kβs Quartet sets?
I thought it was the Toronto Rangers!

Even I, a non sports fan, recognize that something is wrong with that sentence.

βYou see a few of them at every funeral. They try to blend in, dressing in culturally appropriate attire. They act solemn enough, but stick out like gangrenous thumbs if you know what to look for.β

#NewReleases2025 This punchy, dynamic, dramatic music grips from first note to last in these top-notch performances. If you've not yet discovered the symphonies of Miloslav KabelΓ‘Δ (1908-1979), one of the foremost Czech composers of the 20th century, then don't delay - listen today!
In so many cases, the last mvmts play off of the intensity of the first mvmts. This first mvmt is SO incredible. But the last mvmt? I find bland and banal.
I used to feel the same way. The last movement felt a little inauthentic to me, like a big payoff we hadn't yet earned through the other bizarre movements. I love the piece now, but I get it.

Don't forget to check all the stuff on your neighbor's yard that's going to blow onto yours during the hurricane. ππ
TBH My least favourite. Iβve listened to dozens of recordings trying to like it more. The problem? The last mvmt. It just doesnβt work. Itβs such a letdown from what builds through the other 4 mvmts. IMO
#NowSpinning Iβve always *liked* but never *loved* this Mahler 7. But now I am going to listen again with open ears and an open mind. Recent comments from someone whose views I respect a lot suggest I might be missing something.
Wonderful operas. I love his Turandot!
Busoni's straddling between traditionalism and modernism can make his music a bit incoherent. But the scope of his imagination was remarkable. His 5-movement, 75-minute Piano Concerto includes a finale in which an offstage 6-part male chorus sings a hymn of praise to...Allah.
#morninglistening to #FranzKonwitschny & the gewandhausorchester Leipzig playing #LvBeethoven 4 Fidelio overtures, Coriolan & Prometheus. Woof! We forget how charged Konwitschny's Beethoven is. Gruff, ripping playing from the Leipzigers under the GDR's GMD.

Oh! Youβre over here now. More semi-good classical music content!

Now listening to JanΓ‘Δek's extraordinary and rather beautiful opera The Excursions of Mr BrouΔek conducted by FrantiΕ‘ek JΓlek. LeoΕ‘ JanΓ‘Δek born on this day in 1854.
I was actually going to give some others of his a try.
I donβt think I will now!
LOL
You know? Iβm glad I listened to it. It was a bit taxing at times. Sometimes, way too much going on at once. Especially in the last mvmt. A lot of themes with internal development that donβt really get anywhere.
Too many very obvious influences. And very thick orchestration.
Schoenberg loved Gershwin. They played tennis together. youtu.be/8Cn1L_cgHPY

Totally agree.
