Doing taxes suck. Paying taxes (when they actually benefit society *stares at military industrial complex* ) is awesome it’s near the ideal form of Tzedakah; a mechanism to help the anonymous anonymously.

(I am atheist, I just like Maimonides formulation)

I have some Pretti Good reasons to doubt his sincerity here.

It’s like a car crash between p-hacking, HARKing, and laundering data through case studies and meta analysis, all through Dr. Flattery the always wrong Robot.

And if there is no god, what I did will matter more to people than the arrangement of electrons in my brain.

Pragmatically, for me, I found that removing an opportunity for me to be inhumane and justify it in God’s name was necessary for me to be more humane, more Jesus like.

I suppose I am taking a reverse pascal wager that a God might be more interested in what I do than what I believe.

That’s fair, and I understand the stress even contemplating him as not divine can cause a believer (as I was one).

The nice thing though is I can’t make him God and I can’t make him not God.

I care more about being humane than being right, and if your faith aids you in that, I am a fan.

Many of the claims of Jesus’s divinity can be seen as rhetorical devices. A kind of ham fisted authority argument common in antiquity.

Set all that aside and he was a dude advocating for a humanist interpretation and implementation of the Torah.

He’s kinda cool.

But the β€œwhat does it mean to be Jewish now?” thing was a theological and social argument between the Rabbinical Jews and the Jewish Christians. It’s why the gospels read like they are trashing in the Pharisees. They were partly making a social argument.

13.03.2026 13:13 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

By the time the gospels were written, the Sadducees were essentially gone due to the destruction of the temple, so criticism of them was redirected towards the Pharisees which were establishing rabbinical Judaism.

Irony being that Jesus was not dissimilar to other Rabbis at the time.

13.03.2026 13:12 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Jesus makes a lot of sense as a first century Rabbi trying to on one hand reject zealotry against the militarily superior Romans, while trying to reinterpret The Law as about justice vs just Temple practice and Judgement from the Sadducees.

I’m an atheist so take with a grain of salt, you are describing the proper formulation of β€œtaking the lords name in vain”.

It’s not saying β€œoh my god” or β€œgod damnit” - it’s invoking God as a justification for human cruelty, dehumanization, and bigotry.

Without doxxing myself or insulting my wife, I can say vaguely there have been times I have had to bear the brunt of being both primary earner and maintaining the house/family. Not enough to justify self congratulation, but enough that I can only hope to be half the man a single-mother is someday.

I wish Sam the physical safety and company of loved ones that I wish of everyone else, but I want him to have no power and influence.

I wish to be both humane and unflinching in that assessment.

β€œMove fast and break things” has some application in the early stages of R&D.

β€œMove fast-ish and unbreak things” in incident response of various types.

But the bulk of human work is in β€œmove slowly and fix things” which is never ending and too boring for these fools :/

13.03.2026 11:54 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Just corroborating as a dude in his 40s that this phenomenon is real and his been present my entire career.

If I actually want to fix and maintain things, step one is building a team of women and non toxic men, or this failure-bravado thing takes hold immediately.

It’s all kind of normal for what counted as historical at the time.

The idea of history and story being detached from eachother is a modern invention, that we aren’t even good at yet.
