Choosing not to educate yourself is - as you said - a choice, yes. But at that point, we're arguing semantics. The matter of fact remains that not everyone is knowledgeable about everything, through choice or otherwise.

I agree with you in general, but a lot of people either don't have full familiarity with all of these topics or lack fundamental familiarity in at least one of these areas. This is where people tend to rely on outside information, assuming interest exists in the first place
