Elon, Trump, Vought, are less touchable. These guys are very touchable. People can make their lives miserable because they ruined a lot with little to no oversight.

To me it makes it worse. It's like the time my grandma bought my 16 year old brother a Mr. T, Velcro dart set.

I sold shoes for seven years. I actually don't think he does it on purpose. Most old people don't want to admit their shoe size changes. Also, last sizes do change. A size 10 is whatever the industry decides it is. With his swollen feet, he's probably an extra wide. But no one wants to tell him.

If my quick googling is remotely accurate a new ship costs $50M - $130M, takes 18-30 months to build. 138 ships a day average.
Screw insurance, even if they cover the losses, that's a lot of lost capital/productivity. That's not even including oil lost or environmental impact.

Stop bailing them out in the first place. Too big to fail was a bad precedent. There are already ways to make consumers whole on a bank failure. Let bad banks die.

They included the A too huh? Which technically would mean if you were training ASL interpreters for congregate outreach, you'd be in violation.

I'm a huge football fan, but I'm not watching. I hope the thing sucks for everyone involved. And I'm praying, some of the socially conscious players start paying attention and make some noise about playing in the US.

I heard KSC or HQ had some logistical issues. I guess they'll be ironed out by the time they convert 10,000 contractors to government employees.

The FOIA on this is going to be amazing. Who authorized the transfer of license plate info from the police to the school system? How is that data used, how is it stored, who has access to the data, what's the retention policy, what notifications went out to parents?

74 with a nice breeze yesterday day, two inches of snow this morning, now sunny and 41. It's been an emotional day.

Only thing saving Clinton from not being the worst modern president was Bush II and of course the current pres. And by modern I mean anyone since Hoover.

Interviews - Brooksley Born | The Warning | FRONTLINE | PBS

To me, Larry Summers taking out Brooksley Born probably screwed things up worse than Glass-Steagall repeal.

Are you saying that it's easy to look at 2008 in retrospect and see the problem? I'm not quite sure what you mean?

But we also know industries do not do well regulating themselves. Government should have intervened at the very least on the underwriting standards for the loans or for the securities, either would have mitigated the issue.

No one is forced to borrow, but homeownership has been proven over and over to be a good investment. At best you get great asset appreciation at worst, barring a perfect storm or regulatory malfeasance and naked greed, you get 30 years of rent control. Either are great ways to build wealth.

The Big Short Rating Agencies
The Big Short Rating Agencies YouTube video by Bouchet Dorian

The lenders were turning around and selling it packaged to investors with a ratings agency seal of approval. The ratings agencies had all gone public and were scared to piss off the banks.

It was a huge issue. There were multiple lobbying efforts at the state and local levels to get rid of or minimize oversight. Plus the mortgage market works on liquidity and there's a ready pipeline for mortgage backed securities. So at the same time lenders were feeding crap to the front end

Tbf, there was a ton of fraud, especially at Countrywide and Indymac and others. The industry was poorly regulated and their underwriting standards were largely ignored.
