We need not fall victim to the temptation to use power of the government to protect our personal interests. We should emulate Jesus, who came peacefully to care for those on the margins of society, especially the immigrant. Not seek to crush our "opponents" for speculated crimes with no due process
What does that mean for us? We should mourn His betrayal and death, and celebrate His resurrection. But we also need to be VERY aware of the ways our actions mirror those of the religious leaders of Jesus' time.

As those of us who observe Easter prepare for this weekend, let it not be lost on us that we are remembering the betrayal, false accusations, improper imprisonment and eventual death of Jesus at the hands of his very own religious leaders, who were using the power of Empire to protect their own. 1/

3. Christian Nationalism is a perversion of faith.
A version of Christianity that tramples the poor and marginalized in favor of the rich and powerful is a religion completely at odds with the teachings of Jesus.

The way immigrants are treated in scripture is the polar opposite of the way that many republican leaders want to treat immigrants and refugees. Jesus judges nations by how they treat the stranger, and boy howdy do we seem determined to treat the stranger among us like a pawn to be moved around
