A supercell thunderstorm with a pancake stack appearance hovers over fields of tall, green grass. A lone wind turbine stands tall on the left, where there are clear blue skies. A highway is on the right, where the storm's core is dumping rain and large hail in a darkened scene. Brown dust/smoke is being pulled off the ground and up into the center of the storm due to its strong inflow. Behind the dust/smoke is the almost-setting Sun's golden light.

I think of supercells as Earth's vacuum cleaners, and this beast of a storm shows why: tall grass in the inflow is bent toward the storm, and dust/smoke from a lightning-triggered fire is sucked into the storm's updraft. Mother nature's power always humbles. #SupercellSunday

According to ERA5 data there have been more days in 2024 with temperatures exceeding 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels than any other year. 2024 will potentially be the first year with no daily temperatures below 1.25°C.
