CODA is prescient only in the way that if it came out today we’d all assume it’s an AI produced screenplay for being so outstandingly generic.

Since the opening of the voting base the films awarded are deeply, deeply, safe. Ambitious in form only to those with a shallow understanding of the medium.

ANORA is probably the worst film ever nominated for best picture. EEAAO is a mirage of creativity once one sits and thinks.

Id more argue the critical standards have dropped in the English laguage film crit world more than any significant shift in the voting base of the Oscars. The critics are now meeting the awards on their turf.

Kind of a shame Dickerson never really worked as a DoP again after this film. I’m happy he managed to score a nice directing career after this, but to think he shot a work of such craft at the age of 40 and never worked the job again seems unfathomable.

I know the idea of the network tv premiere for a movie being years later is passé. But seeing Wicked on regular ass NBC tonight is blowing my mind.

I know it’s on for marketing, but still.

I always forget that this movie takes forever to get started proper.

This movie is pretty fucking good.

#TIFF 2/4: There are a lot of movies that do the anti-social kids with a camera movie better than BARRIO TRISTE.

Aimless yet padded out at the same time. Clearly sets out to be as unpleasant a watch as possible, at which is undoubtedly succeeds. But there is so little substance underneath.

TIFF 1/4: DIYA is a social drama with some good performances and great camera work about a man trapped by the melange and his own carelessness and traditional cultural practices.

More interesting than a lot of moral fable dramas because the lead isn’t a maligned innocent but just a dude who sucks.

LA BELLE NOISEUSE is on criterion 24/7 and it’s gotta be one of the French-est movies I’ve ever seen.

The amount of empty seats in the stands behind home plate at the all star game is an awful look.

Damn, someone who is objectively correct.

It’s unbelievable how often AMC plays GLADIATOR. Seems like they have it on 5 times a week every week.

You couldn’t make a more mundane top movies list than what NYT spat out.
