My Father comfortably raised a family of four while working at a department store. We owned a house, went on vacations, and my brother and I both went through college. My parents are born in the 1940’s, so not literally a generation ago, although for me it is the previous generation.

Not to mention the fact that prices were raised to account for the tariffs, and the companies will have little incentive to lower them, even with tariffs gone.

Our kids are in college, and they still need to justify *any* spending on the cards that come from our funds. They can spend whatever they want on cards that come from their bank accounts (and the same was true when they were in grade school).

I would expect that competition and capitalism would lead to the latter. One company could sit back and produce the same with fewer workers, but if another company used more workers and innovated faster, the first company would get left behind.

At my company, probably 1 out of 100 “good ideas” get implemented. If AI made me 100x more productive, that could mean doing the same work with 1/100 the # of engineers, or it could mean that our company would innovate 100x faster.

As a software engineer with 30+ years experience, I can say that the hype is true wrt software. AI is a huge productivity enhancer now, and will only get better. What that means for tech jobs is unclear to me long term. Faster productivity may just mean better software, not fewer workers.

Touting stock market records as a big accomplishment is so stupid. Stocks go up on average, which means they are constantly hitting highs. Net returns are more relevant, and returns under Trump have been decent, but no better than Biden and I believe much lower than Obama.

They make it so hard to tell the difference between outright stupidity and willful ignorance (I think it is often a combination of both).

It sounds like it is technically not a vaccine, but that it can do the job of one. I’m not sure how long “long lasting” is, but if you can get a shot once a year that gives high protection against all forms of influenza, that would be very powerful.

For me it has nothing to do with streaming. When I got a large flat screen TV with a great sound system, it became much more enjoyable to watch at home (even when I was using DVDs). I can sit on my sofa with a glass of wine, pause or rewind when I want, and add subtitles if I want them.
