Ancient photoreceptor shapes behavioural responses
Promoter sequences are so hard to amplify from plants. Even from Arabidopsis. You think taking 2-kb upstream from a couple genes would be trivial. π

To survive winter trees must time spring growth with great precision. Research from @umeaplantsciencecentre.se shows that trees also use warm interruptions in early winter as signals helping buds avoid opening too early #research supported by Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation

Detecting fluctuating shade
For plants adapting to light conditions is crucial. Canopy shade brings with it its own challenges, it is not just less light, but with some of the useful red light filtered out by the leaves above the ratio of red vs far red-light changes as well. π§΅1/4

Someone got Cas9-Turbo to work. It's like basically Y1H but with proteomics. It however requires transgenic plant expressing Cas9-Turbo and gRNAs, which is still cumbersome for many plants that are not Arabidopsis. #PlantSciences
π§ͺπΎ PAPER β How do trees know when winter is really over?
Trees donβt just track long-term cold exposure. The Bhalerao group and collaborators show they also count short warm spells when assessing winter progression.

Happy New Year!
May all your PCRs give you only specific bands of the appropriate sizes. May your gel extraction and miniprep yields be high.
May your cloning always give you at least one correct colony, and your genotyping identify the mutants you are after. β¨
Has anyone sequenced Agrobacterium rhizogenes K599? If no I'll send mine to @plasmidsaurus.bsky.social for sequencing as my first experiment of the New Year and share the results + genbank upload. Gonna prepare cells today either way.
