Happy International Women's Day to all the strong, inspiring, bold, imaginative change makers. To the women who are proof that strength and kindness can coexist. To the women who nourish everyone around them. To the women who bring love and reciprocity into all their work ๐ #IWD

Here are a few reflections from team members @tayaziz.bsky.social, @athlynck.bsky.social and Riannan on which principles resonate with them most, and how they serve as a lens through which to sense-check and reflect on our work.

I've given Bluesky a proper go but social media just doesn't feel good for me anymore. It's so isolating and random and useless. This year I will be focusing much more on joining real life community groups where I can (and understand I am hugely privileged to have this as an option)

I'd love to join more real life community groups this year, particularly ones focused around global majority groups in nature, hiking, gardening, swimming and similar.
Can anyone recommend groups like this in Bristol?

I remain deeply concerned about the ongoing detention of Imran Khan.
His disgraceful treatment is an affront to the democratic rights of the people of Pakistan.
We must continue to speak up for the release of all political prisoners everywhere.

Marigold petals laid out to dry. The whole frame is full of scattered, bright orange and yellow petals.
Tay's hand holding a stack of home dyed paper, ranging in shades from orange to yellow and brown
2 lino prints laid side by side. They are printed with black ink on square sheets of home dyed orange paper. One depicts someone's hands cutting mango slices with a plate full of slices nearby. The other print shows hands pouring chai from a pot through a sieve into a mug. Next to the mug are chai spices, cinnamon sticks, star anise and a spoon.
Now that the cold and dark has rolled in, I've been really enjoying experimenting with all the dye flowers I grew this year ๐ต here are some prints on coreopsis and marigold dyed paper ๐ฅญ
Nothing says 'I love you' more than your mom handing over a plate of sliced fruit or a cup of chai ๐ต

Hibernating bumblebee uncovered in soil
If you discover a hibernating bumblebee while digging in your garden or allotment this winter, try to avoid disturbing her, and loosely re-cover her so she can hit the snooze button until spring. More advice from @bumblebeetrust.bsky.social at www.bumblebeeconservation.org

Constructing Consensus: The case for community-powered development and regeneration - New Local
How can community power unlock our fraught planning system?
The planning system desperately needs reform.
While ยฃ100m for councils & 300 new planning officers is welcome, top-down targets alone won't deliver 1.5m homes.
Read our latest report to learn how community-powered development can transform housebuilding.

Margaret Hodge appointed UK anti-corruption champion to tackle flow of โdirty moneyโ
Labour peer says she will combat โcorruption and the illicit finance that flows from it, both at home and abroadโ
Weโve been working hard to expose the influence of dark money and corruption on our democracy.
But itโs one thing to expose it. Itโs time people were held to criminal account. Hodge and Labour have the power to turn the screw.

Mum's still in and out of consciousness a lot, and most days she sleeps through the visiting hours. But the few minutes we do get together where she is awake and alert enough to have a sign-conversation are very precious

It's amazing how you can learn to communicate with a loved one when they can't speak anymore, I understand every little eye movement and hand gesture and the specific way she twitches her eyebrows to ask: what day is it? How's everyone at home? What did you do today?

My mum's illness recently has given me an appreciation of life that is so deep, I know it's cliche but have you ever thought about how you can sit yourself up in bed, go downstairs, make yourself breakfast and do things like put your shoes on? Never taking that for granted again โผ๏ธ

Got that tin of creamed spinach in my cupboard that's been there for years. Will I ever eat it? No. Will I ever throw it away? Never ๐คฃ

But she is a FIGHTER and she's awake and breathing on her own for the first time in weeks ๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ค

6. I came to the UK as an asylum seeker with my parents and grandad. My grandad was a political activist in Pakistan for democratic rights during a military coup in the 70s and therefore was tracked and threatened closely by the state. I follow in his footsteps now with my own activism โค๏ธ
