Teams and times for fight-nite on Friday and Saturday, looking forward to streaming and watching players of all skill levels play #compsplatoon
Iβve been seeing a lot of people say that if youβre good enough, the server or environment doesnβt matter youβll eventually get noticed and end up playing with strong players. I used to believe that too. Im pretty sure I can go back to my 2023 VODs and find myself saying mid-level players were just making excuses and they are terrible entitled players lmao. But after talking and playing with so many people, my perspective has changed. Yes, outliers will rise very quickly some players are just that good and improve at a crazy pace. But not everyone develops that way. At higher levels, growth often depends a lot on opportunities, and who youβre able to practice with consistently (or if you can play Japan x rank at their time zones+fast queue times) . First impressions also carry a lot of weight. If you donβt immediately perform, people tend to label you as βnot goodβ and often ignore your improvement over time. The current competitive enviorment just doesn't facilitate growth overtime at all. And while itβs true that some people blame the system instead of putting in the work, thatβs not something that should be applied for everyone. What Iβd really like to see is a healthier community path for improving players, back in S2 solo queue wasn't that big of a factor at least for me, you could grind tournaments, scrims, colo etc and it was very easy to set a clear path for your growth without worrying about result culture or getting dodged. You only really got blacklisted if you proved time and time again you just weren't cut out for your current level. Overtime I'm starting to understand why everyone gets so heated about +server etc. It's just not fun to play in the current community environment for comp and I hope eventually people will be a bit more opened minded to making the current comp environment more enjoyable instead of just "God I earned my way up here they can do it too I'm so good and they aren't ego ego ego ego π€¬π€¬"
To the people saying oh the + server is inactive anyways so voting doesn't matter and no one should care. Try asking yourself why it's inactive and the answers may shock you π±π± (this is irrelevant to my thoughts below) #compsplatoon
Really appreciate your replies Ely!
You have some very valid points and I think community buy in for these tournaments are going to be biggest obstacles to overcome.
Want to thank the folks over at @broadcastbeep.com for giving me an opportunity to speak with @remixedfern.bsky.social , @pikadave465.bsky.social , and @isjared.bsky.social for being the inspiration being the document.
I hope that community members use it to help inspire change in this community.
After talking with friends, TOs, and top players, here is a comprehensive write-up about midlevel and its issues.
Understanding WHY these issues exists and WHAT we can do is important if we want to bring about change.
Written from a midlevel player POV: πread the document here

I'm not a huge fan of the way people view results a lot of the time, but I think people need to realize the issue with plus servers is not results culture... It's the fact that plus is almost entirely not based on results. It's a popularity contest that pretends it's a meritocracy when it's not.

Suggested cunodae.bsky.social to +3 GAS
@chronospyli.bsky.social suggested me into +3! I can't express my thankfulness in word limit but HUGE thanks so. Getting into plus for strong scrims to ultimately push my bow beyond limits will be huge. Thx 2 Pika and Gimme as well, yall are goats. Here's to a good year and do consider upvoting! GLβ€οΈ
Thank you for sharing Rose!
Would love to see these topics discussed more in-depth if you decide to tackle them in a video / stream / podcast .
Greatly appreciate the additional perspective from you ^^
As someone who shares similar thoughts as a competitor, would you be open to sharing more of your perspective?
Genuinely would be very interested in hearing it given how well you covered other topics in this community.

Celebrating getting another year older by baking my own strawberry short cake π°
Decorating was a bit messy but not bad for a first time. Anyone want a slice?
After playing 40+ hours with midlevel, I can confidently say it was the most miserable experience Iβve had playing this game mostly because I skipped this part of the scene back in S2 and didnβt realize how bad it could actually be. Itβs not miserable because of overall skill level, because yeah everything is gonna feel worse outside of top level after being in it for long. The biggest thing hurting this part of the scene is ego. I had over 60 tryouts, and almost all of them said itβs hard for them to even get four people to try out with. That genuinely confused me, because for the most part everyone I played with felt extremely similar in skill, and I could easily see these players scrimming each other regularly and figuring out how to mesh over time. This explains a lot of why midlevel feels weaker as a whole. A lot of these players simply donβt get enough meaningful playtime outside of rare pickups or X Rank, so theyβre missing the constant feedback loop that actually drives improvement. Playing against people at a similar level forces you to recognize patterns, and improve through adaptions. Over time, that raises the average skill for everyone involved. There were so many situations in games where I had to explain why we were losing or what we needed to change to win and I honestly think most of these players wouldβve figured it out themselves eventually if they were consistently playing each other instead of isolating themselves or waiting for βbetterβ lobbies. when players actually PLAY THE GAME, the average skill level naturally rises. This isn't entirely mid levels fault though, I think top level players can do a better job at providing knowledge to mid level players to improve but better questions need to be asked to top players too, all the time I see questions like oh what special is best or how do i play "insert weapon here" these are terrible questions and we need to move on to better questions like "what should i have done in this scenario here" bβ¦
