The drumbeat can't stop. Congress must extend the expanded health tax credits, install guardrails to stop the President from unilaterally undoing final appropriations agreements, & pass funding legislation that protects housing for formerly homeless folks & protects food asst.
Minneapolis Council member Aisha Chughtai wins re-election with 59% of the vote in Ward 10 with all precincts reporting. She beat challenger Lydia Millard, 6,358 votes to 4,011.

Just to be clear, Texas State Rep. Nicole Collier is not holding some kind of sit-in protest. She is literally locked in the State Capitol against her will.
Many horrors of the OBBB will soon be felt—if not understood or properly credited—and this is going to be one of the most horrific.
Final CBO score of the "big beautiful bill" is out
Largest Medicaid cuts ever - in fact, at least 4 times the size of the previous largest; $894-$990 bn cut
Kicks 10 million off health insurance
Largest SNAP cuts ever, $197 bn cut
Still increases the deficit by $3.4 trillion from huge tax cuts
there should be a guerilla movement to sticker plaques and the like with QR codes that lead to the information Trump administration is trying to memory hole
A model for the nation? I don’t think so.
As I note in article below Georgia’s Medicaid work requirement, now mandated in all states by Trump’s new budget bill, has been a shocking waste of taxpayer $$ —
generating corporate profit by keeping people out of coverage.

$117 billion is a big number, so we thought it could use a little context.

Ok everybody remain calm. Plague has never gone away, it’s not uncommon among small animals in the western US and California. There are a few cases in humans here and there every year. This is sad but not cause for panic or concern.

Republican senators have been racing to pass their bill before people learn about these numbers.
But at some point Americans are going to notice anyway. Including the ~half of Medicaid recipients who voted for Trump.
That coverage has been non existent.
The parliamentarian has ruled that increased federal Medicaid payments for Alaska and Hawaii violate the Byrd rule. Also increased Medicare rates for outpatient hospitals in those states.

The Senate is racing to pass “a stand alone in history—a reconciliation bill that drives up poverty and the number of people uninsured, while increasing deficits and debt.”
@centeronbudget.bsky.social
How many GOP Senators who will vote for it think this is a good idea?

The latest version makes worse the harsh provision that takes coverage away from #Medicaid expansion enrollees who don’t meet a work requirement, exempting only parents w/ kids over age 13 (vs. 14 in the original Sen. bill). Similar House provision exempted all expansion parents.
Sen. R leaders tinkered w/ some provisions as they rush to vote on the reconciliation bill but its harm remains: millions would lose coverage, access to needed care & accrue medical debt, leading to more avoidable deaths, uncompensated care & rural hospital closures. www.cbpp.org/press/statem...
BREAKING: I will object to Republicans moving forward on their Big, Ugly Bill without reading it on the Senate floor
Republicans won’t tell America what’s in the bill
So Democrats are forcing it to be read start to finish on the floor
We will be here all night if that’s what it takes to read it
The latest Senate Republican plan retains a deeply harmful provision that tramples over state rights’ to make decisions about how to use their own funds to ensure their state residents can access comprehensive health coverage.

Awful. As @peterbeinart.bsky.social notes, neither @schumer.senate.gov nor @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social have signed on to requiring Trump to get cong authorization for war with Iran.
As I argued (see below) there should be a bipartisan coalition here. Where is it?

You thought it was bad that Republicans were attacking school lunches to give tax breaks to billionaires?
They've also hidden private school vouchers in the bill.
So not only will public school kids go hungry, their schools will see resources siphoned off for private schools.
