A particularly strong gust flew straight toward where he sat in the sedan, breaking him out of his sullen reverie. The flurry blew straight through the red curtains in front of him and smushed his veil down over his face. Xie Lian’s nose perked up. For a moment he thought he had caught the scent of something—something that shouldn’t be there. Or—no. Then again, it just smelled like rain. The sound of a twig cracking snapped him back to attention. Someone was approaching. He heard a soft jingling that kept time with the person’s gait. Next he heard a soft chuckle. It was a man. As the man walked closer, his scent drifted into the sedan. Xie Lian’s heart sped into a harried frenzy. An alpha! The approaching alpha smelled…good. Undeniably appealing. But Xie Lian was having trouble pinpointing exactly what scent that was. If he had to describe it in detail to another, he’s not sure he’d be able to. Running into an alpha was not an uncommon experience or, in this case, particularly unexpected considering who this ghost was, but for some reason Xie Lian felt his temperature quickly rising. Feeling he was on the brink of passing out, he reached out to brace himself against the side of the sedan. At just that moment, he saw the red curtain part as a hand reached into the sedan.
