SUV drivers could face extra charges for driving in London TfL are also poised to increase 20mph zones and cut speed limits on the capital’s fastest roads later this year

SUVs pose a much higher danger to pedestrians than smaller vehicles with a lower hood height, β€œwith children at particular risk of fatal injuries from collisions”, specifically children are β€œ77% more likely” to die.

London is considering charges for drivers of these larger vehicles.

I thought a Grand Parade episode had a clip of an exchange between Council and Staff about how this development wouldn't even pay for itself but should proceed anyway for some nebulous reasons the staffer couldn't articulate well.

Banning Twitter, Canceling F-35 / Building our own fighter jets, Condemning reckless and unlawful American aggression around the world, and now responsible defense industry policy - all things we apparently can't do because it might attract American ire.

This is hilarious.

Also, completely enraging.

Journos, the next time you question Tim Houston, please ask him this: when you dropped the HST by 1%, was cutting arts and culture funding part of the plan?

Because I want to know if this was a premeditated attack, or just blind incompetence. #nspoli

Maybe he could listen first next time.

Also: most of the budget changes *haven't* been reversed.

By getting this crosser now, he will get his majority via elections, which may be perceived as more legitimate.

Being able to buttonhole a politician is an effective way to enact change. I saw it myself in September 2024 when two women stopped Tim Houston on his way out of the chamber. That brief exchange had Houston reverse course on declaring intimate partner violence an epidemic.

Over the years security at Province House has been beefed up considerably. There are security cameras throughout the building and outside the legislature. The place even has its own police force now. This is clearly an attempt to shield government members from being questioned or criticized.

The supposed explosion of the federal public service looks less explosive if you put it in per capita numbers and draw a line graph back to the mid-80s.

Incidentally, a property tax bill is the most efficient way to collect a bus fare.

If it's inconsequential as a fare, it's just as inconsequential on a property tax bill.

They should make a TV show that's just more of Better Call Saul. Only it's not more seasons of Better Call Saul because the story was the correct length, and it's not rewatching Better Call Saul because it's new content, and it's not a spinoff, but it's still somehow more of Better Call Saul. Yknow?

I hate their running look at the tax rate with each decision. We're talking about pennies per homeowner per month. We should be looking at the impact of the service associated with each proposal.
