Visiting Puglia in 2026? Choose a smart base - one that works for your travel circumstances (time of year, whether you have your own transport, vs public transport). Switch between surf and turf, central Puglia and Salento.
Then plan the perfect Puglia itinerary.

It’s mac and cheese, but probably not as you know it.
Traditional southern Italian maccheroni al formaggio cooked for Sunday lunch in our Puglia kitchen - maccarruna 'ncaciati. Macaroni and cheese, the classic way.

Bari has become Puglia’s top destination - with good reason. Even five years ago, most visitors to Puglia just transited through, on their way somewhere else. Now it’s a definite must visit stop.
The food plays a big part, but it has an interesting old town.

Ingredients for our traditional, southern Italian macaroni and cheese. Maccheroni al formaggio. With polpette, salami, primosale, pomodori pelati, pecorino and melanzane.
This is the traditional recipe before there was the cheesy sauce version.

Today’s Puglia Kitchen lunch is a traditional southern Italian macaroni and cheese. Maccheroni al formaggio - maccarruna ’ncaciati
Though this classic recipe is far removed from international standard Mac and Cheese.
Here’s how it starts.

Back from eating out in Bari, we’ve updated our guide with some new restaurant choices for 2026.
There’s a wide range of authentic, traditional dishes. Restaurants are often well known for a few specific dishes.

Top! But did you know one of the biggest arguments we have in Puglia over food is whether this dish is called riso, patate e cozze (rice, potatoes and mussels) OR patate, riso e cozze (potatoes rice and mussels)
Locorotondo is one of our favourite towns in Puglia’s Valle d’Itria. Whether you are staying over, or passing through, here are our favourite things to do, see and places to eat!

Ahah! You must feel like you know Puglia very well.
Yes, it’s exactly there in our guide.
Nice, Ostuni. Puglia.
We don’t tell, only suggest.

Just saying. Wow on top of wow. This was top ossobuco. In Ostuni, Puglia.

Yes. We started there. Poor Dodo. If only Jackie were alive it would surely be she who appeared in the memory Tardis with Steven instead of Vicki (accident of alive actors).
Ahah! Don’t even ask why Sara Kingdom went upstairs and then downstairs.
When you are all alone in a restaurant. In our home base too. The life of the Puglia Guys. Review (or not).
Ahah! We thought she might have gone into psychiatric care before her death (from syphilis). Though that might be someone’s twisted revenge for causing death and genetic mutation from the cold!
Whatever happened to Dodo, aka Dorothea Anne Chaplet, is a never ending fascinating journey. Can you explain it in brief? We notice Stephen reconnected with Vicki. Time has no limits, but our time stream does, it seems.
No problem with honey! Top. Grazie
Since posting about our GeminiAI review in French, thank you to the follower who pointer out that we are “opinionated”.
But widely considered the most reliable and trustworthy of Puglia travel resources we will take.

We love Italian food. But somethings we crave other. For this recipe our challenges will be rice syrup (and golden syrup).
What was troubling was that Scottish nonna overcooked the spaghetti and added a packet of Schwartz bolognaise seasoning to fried mince with a tin of tomatoes.
And this was that - but not in a negative way! Not at all.
There was something extremely nostalgic about this tagliatelle al ragù. If you were to swap the tagliatelle for spaghetti it’s just like Scottish nonna would make at her home. I’ve never eaten a dish that made me think of her British “spaghetti bolognaise” as this!
Ahah! It’s not a pool for all seasons though. Best enjoyed in summer - and by the cats!

Thanks to a French reader for sending this. The Puglia Guys, “sans doute” the most comprehensive (?) resource [for Puglia].
BUT - in English!
