Lifelong outer-borough #NYC resident; #climatechange and #trafficviolence realist; proponent of #bikeNYC, trains, trees, & many more for all. Less active nowadays; FYPs aren't great for my mental health and productivity. π nycstreetsutures.wordpress.com
Extremely common. It's one of the reasons people don't do advocacy or stop doing it. Here's one my sub got just now for instance. This is constant
As ETA argued last year, a bill like this would lock New York transit in the past.
The vast majority of metro systems around the world use only a single operator or are entirely automated, with no negative effect on safety and enabling more service.

I need better motivation to work on my blog than reading about new features coming to WordPress.
That said, I am relieved to have successfully redone my About page. Instead of copying clickbaity yet successful blogs elsewhere, this feels true to myself. π

A new analysis of toll evasion found that the amount of money owed by drivers who don't pay paper toll invoices has more than doubled since 2022, from $147 million in unpaid tolls to nearly $350 million.
It also reduces the demand for oil which not only keeps particulates and carbon monoxide out of the air but also slows climate collapse and disincentivizes war on its behalf.
In countless ways bikes=life and cars the opposite.
Business is booming on Hudson Street!
Thanks to a 2022 renovation that reimagined "the narrow and congested blocks into a boulevard with improvements including a parking-protected bike lane, more benches and wider sidewalks."

Jamaica and South Jamaica Comprehensive Neighborhood Planning - presented to Queens Community Board 12 in March 2026
A note for politicians. Don't do your normal thing. The goal is not to make oil cheaper temporarily... it's to make alternatives to cars more practical always.
Signed!
In 2025, one in four Citi Bike trips originated in, ended in, or passed through either Council Districts 3 or 4, despite the lack of protected crosstown bike lanes.
Right on cue, it's time to subsidize drivers at non-drivers expense again, as is tradition.
If the B, D, F, and M trains are basketballs, it's Spring.
If they're pumpkins, it's Autumn. π€£
It means if you no longer like Bluesky the app but want to use another app that works on the same protocol (AT), you don't have to start from scratch with a brand new account.
(Same with Mastodon and that other protocol, ActivityPub.)
"Blair Lorenzo, Executive Director, Effective Transit Alliance "This is a great decision by Gov. Sherrill, one which should have always been a no-brainer. Urban highway widenings have no place in the 21st century, and all too often, the need for structural replacement is used as an excuse for hidden road expansion. This is the right call not only for New Jersey, but for the entire metropolitan area." "
Last week, NJ Gov Sherrill announced that the NJ Turnpike would replace the Newark Bay Bridge with only one span, finally ending a wrongheaded highway expansion.
Urban highway widenings have no place in the 21st century, & ETA joins our partners in applauding this decision.

We don't know exactly how many New Yorkers sleep on the street, but we know it's far too many.
In order to solve our housing crisis, we need to understand it. The annual HOPE count is our chance, so please volunteer tomorrow night:
No edit button on Bluesky (π), but this should do it lol nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/03/06/c...

there is something poetic about how MAGAs in their 12 mpg F-150s will be hit the hardest while coastal libs who take transit will have the least exposure to skyrocketing oil prices
Proper urban infrastructure deals out consequences to the motorists, not the people they attempt to hit with their cars.
We changed BIG when the consequences were a lot LESS than what weβre facing from the #ClimateCrisis. Donβt let anyone tell you we CANβT change.
You should chat with some of those folks at their monthly TOD get-togethers, around the last Friday of the month at either Penn Station or Grand Central
Another great "regional metro" concept for the New York City via the @etany.org Unlocking regional transportation will make the area infinitely more livable and affordable.
Zohran told me he wants to be held accountable, so let's run the clip again. The time for Universal Daylighting is now, according to this Zohran guy

Spring is coming, and so is $50 million for parks!
Weβre investing in parks in historically underfunded neighborhoods across all five boroughs starting with:
Looking to raise billions of dollars? Try parking reform:
"'We should be looking at all those things,' Fuleihan had said, referring to the questioner's specific mention of dynamic parking fees or other ways to get revenue from one of the city's untapped public resources."
Free parking in NYC is a give away to the rich

I'm so proud of my reporters @kevinduggan.bsky.social and Austin C. Jefferson for their continued coverage of Gov. Hochul's attempt to lower the cost of driving by lowering compensation to victims of crashes. The latest:
