How Much I Dislike the Daily Mail I would rather eat Quavers that are six weeks stale, blow dry the man bun of Gareth Bale, listen to the songs of Jimmy Nail, than read one page of the Daily Mail. If I was bored in a waiting room in Perivale, on a twelve-hour trip on Network Rail, halfway through a circumnavigational sail, I would not read the Daily Mail. I would happily read the autobiography of Dan Quayle, 1001 Things You Can Do With Kale, selected scripts from Emmerdale, if it meant I didn’t have to read the Daily Mail. Far better to stand outside in a storm of hail, scratch a blackboard with a fingernail, be swallowed by a humpback whale, than have to read the Daily Mail. If I was blind and it was the only thing in Braille, I still would not read the Daily Mail. Brian Bilston

That’s a cracker. Best book of last year for me, but it’s certainly not for everyone.
Me too. StoryGraph is just tracking my reading (the non-Amazon alternative to Goodreads). For most books I could mark them as paused in the app, and leave the bookmark in.
My issue is that I’m 250 of 600 pages through a library book with no renewals left and another one with 5 reserves on it.
There is now a Pause option in StoryGraph. Maybe I should use that.
This is what my book group friends tell me. They despair 🙄
I think if I DNF once I might be okay after that. It does feel like failure though. If it was a really really terrible book or one with a horrible subject matter, it would be easier to abandon than one that’s just difficult to read.
Which 3 #ttrpgs were your intro, where you fell in love, and one that opened your eyes to possibility.
The Intro: Also White Box D&D. In hindsight, I wonder how we understood how to play.
The Love: Also Traveller. The ultimate sandbox.
The possibility: Delta Green. Investigation with continuity.
If only the sentence “oooh that looks interesting” had never been invented I’d be in much better shape.

Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James. It’s intriguing, but hard work. I’ve run out of renewals for it, and one of my unstarted library books (Leonard & Hungry Paul) has 5 reserves. I have two other library books out and I haven’t even started Wuthering Heights for book group yet. Oh the pressure!
This is a good moment for Europe & UK to remember that they can stick up wind and solar, insulates houses, far quicker than they can find new gas in e.g. North Sea
