Co-evolution between plants and animals was shown as more sudden and spontaneous than the gradual series of infinitesimal mutations over large timespans. This adds confusion about the processes and is deeply unfortunate for a public who already has a difficult time understanding these concepts.
Existing documentaries already do a better job of showing realistic behaviors, adaptations, and ecological relationships. TD’s animation and direction were clunky and far too cartoony. But I think the real disservice to the viewer came with the disjointed presentation of time and evolution.
Idunno who needs to hear this, but Netflix’s new The Dinosaurs (TD) series was a real step backward in terms of educational content about deep time, evolution, and even individual dinosaur species themselves. Honestly, I’m not even sure what the point of producing it was.
