βJust plain old Larryβ: A Wisconsin manβs testimony about gender-affirming care went viral. Hereβs his story.
Milwaukee retiree Larry Jones, 85, came to a legislative hearing supporting a ban. He changed his mind after hearing from transgender youth.
Jones calls himself conservative, but said heβs willing to look at both sides of an issue. He mostly tunes into Fox News and local TV stations. He said he still has a lot to learn about the transgender community, and heβs made that his mission for the next six months or so.

Oh, this is terrible news. 538 has done invaluable, unique work for so long. I rely on their poll database constantlyβa true public good.
Most of all, I feel terrible for all the folks there, especially @baseballot.bsky.social & @gelliottmorris.com, whom I've gotten to know a bit. Please hire them!

Ethanol consumption across all alcohol came out to 3.56 gallons in 2022, which is equivalent to 760 standard drinks in a year. That's the same as two standard drinks a day. The NIAAA recommends a daily limit of two drinks for men and one drink for women.

Spirits are significantly stronger than beer. According to the NIAAA, a standard drink of beer is 12 fluid ounces and for spirits is 1.5 fluid ounces. The consumption of ethanol (aka the active ingredient in alcohol) increased by 4% between 2012 and 2022.

From 2012 to 2022, beer drinking decreased by 20% in the 21+ population. Spirits drinking increased by 32% in the same time period. It seems marginal, but these changes show a lot more intensely when looking at the consumption of ethanol in drinks.

One of the things that shocked me the most during my move to Wisconsin was the drinking culture here. So I decided to put together a story and some graphics using data from NIAAA. Read the story here: wisconsinwatch.org/2024/12/wisc... Here are some of my favorite findings (a thread):

Democrats flip 14 legislative seats, affirming GOP gerrymander is dead
The Democratic gains in a strong Republican year set up a chance for them to win majorities in 2026 in Wisconsin.
I enjoy making little baby maps for my co-workers stories. Gerrymandering is such an interesting topic and being able to address it through the results of reversing it is very insightful for me.
