i think it would be cool to one day look back on this era of media hyperconsumption as something that was fundamentally incompatible with human life.

a lot of doom spiraling about "the death of truth" presupposes a world where we continue to oversaturate our brains in an environment of relentless real-time infoslop, when in reality we can simply choose to live differently

However I realize that I am not the norm, and I actually love having longer afternoon daylight to do stuff in. But. Yeah.

The downside for me is that I commute to YVR for work travel via float plane, and they can't fly in the dark. It's gonna mean some crappy extra long trip time.

I especially enjoyed the "have you ever been sanctioned before" line.

That's what we writers call "foreshadowing"

This was so good. This was a gripping drama. It had HEROS and VILLAINS and it ended on a CLIFFHANGER. I may die.

The 7
You're fun and social with endless energy, and you're also kind of a mess, which attracts interesting and occasionally unsettling people to you. We can't rely on you, but goodness graciousssss are you the life of the party. Despite the effortless cool factor, you can hang with anyone, including the snoozes turning out the lights at 8:00 PM. Though no one can expect you to run on a schedule, it's well-known wherever we're going will be a blast, and someone has to keep this city alive. It WOULD be nice if you showed up on time sometimes.

Bahaha this is all true

I don't know how much mocro-targetted engagement feed stuff Bsky does, but the biggest evil of SM platforms is rewarding controversy and rage. I'm hoping that is not the inevitable path for Bsky.

Teeth and brains, two perplexing historical lacks of coverage in our healthcare system. Not everything needs a psychiatrist, psychologists being covered would be a massive win.

I remember brief attempts to organize, unionize, criticize... but all of those fizzled out or were captured. And frankly the high salaries in tech just poisoned any chance for real solidarity. I believe the term the hippies used was "selling out." What a quaint idea that seems now.

Agreed. I remember the promise of open source, and I feel personally betrayed by how the movement just stole labour for capital. The high-minded idealism of community turned so sour. Ugh.

I once read a description of Ardbeg Uigeadail as "a peat fire in a hospital at sea" aaand while I'm glad I experienced it for the sake of knowledge, it wasn't a thing I'd do for pleasure!

I like a bit of peat, but just I can't do Octomore or Ardbeg. I'm willing to believe some people love it and to them I say: ...really?? Lol 🤷😂

Oh, yes, it most certainly is.

I want a stem to keep wine cool and I want no stem to keep scotch and brandy warm (my controversial? opinion is that scotch on the rocks is only for bad scotch where you don't actually want to know what the flavours and scents are, or people who think "most peated" is an endurance contest.)

In almost any acute health situation where the end consequence is death without treatment, waiting produces worse outcomes and it's not linear.

That movie was so underrated, I think because Heinlein fans expected the book but it was actually a wonderful satire. I liked how the infantry ad at the end had literal kids.

I just always feel a bit sad when I do the manouver to gently pull the shrimp from the tail and it breaks off. Wasted shrimp!! But oooh so satisfying when it comes out with just a tug.

(Note no real people were harmed in the study.)

It told fully HALF the people in the study that they did not need to seek medical attention for conditions that absolutely would have killed them and did in fact require acute treatment.

Not before gaming the system to steal an organ from someone who would have gotten it and lived a full life just to prolong his terminal diagnosis.
