And once again, to be VERY clear: I don’t lay this blame at Dr. Ewing’s feet. She’s a polymath with more and bigger fish to fry. Exceptional was the best From the Ashes book. She just wanted to write her characters. This is a Hat Man joint, through and through.

Krakoa worked bc those writers were mostly in sync. There was a Slack. There was an omelet station. There was Leah, Vita and Tini out here like the Wolfpack from The Hangover movies. How can I see a room full of marquee X-Men together for the first time in two years and feel NOTHING? Ain’t right.

And the thing is, it’s more evidence the current X-Men writers are forbidden from talking to each other. With proper planning, this book should have been a big deal, built to in-universe. Shit, it should have been the result of Age of Doug. “We need to come back together to stop this dark future.”

This one was a major disappointment. Basically Marvel forcing Eve Ewing into a devil’s bargain to keep writing Exceptional. The art is a big step down from Carmen Carnero, and Cyclops is regressed to his never-justified-feud-with-Rogue phase. (cont’d)
