Woodpigeons don't really get going until later in the year, so I'm happy to monitor this one for the #NestRecordScheme! @btobirds.bsky.social
The above BHG was ringed at Welney WWT on 18/6/24. This is the first sighting since then.
The Welney scheme is a new one, with just 12 birds ringed last year #uptonwarren @lee00barber.bsky.social #welneywwt
Late pm/early evening visit to the Flashes #uptonwarren (gates open late due to Sailing activities). Three Ringed Plovers, two Dunlin still & Red Kite drifting over seemed to be it. Then Marsh Harrier through at 18.35 & a new darvic-ringed BHG (see attached) #worcsbirds @birdingcentral.bsky.social
Even nest monitoring non-natives in the UK can provide vital information on their breeding performance. #NestRecordScheme @btobirds.bsky.social
Thanks to #BirdRinging, the maximum age of a Woodpigeon has been recorded at 17 years 8 months. This bird (F9) popped into my Norfolk garden this morning and is at least 13 years old now. #Amazing! @btobirds.bsky.social
This bird caught in Norfolk, could have been shining itself in sunny north Africa, just a few weeks ago. Now it is wearing a @btobirds.bsky.social bird ring, we may well find out where it goes. #BirdRinging
It's 'just' a Starling they say. No no no. Just take a good look! Such vibrant colours in the sunshine, and this one has three white throat feathers too! #BirdRinging @btobirds.bsky.social . @btoengland.bsky.social
It'll soon be time for our winter visiting Whooper swans to be flying back to Iceland. Don't forget to check their legs for rings before they do! @btobirds.bsky.social #BirdRinging @wwtworldwide.bsky.social
It's such a privilege to help monitor these golden plover at a site in Norfolk. As with all birds, check their legs for colour rings when you're out birding and report it to learn more about them. www.cr-birding.org. @btobirds.bsky.social #BirdRinging
Originally ringed on 21st Dec 24, our yellow ring L7 Woodpigeon is back! Living to 17 years 8 months, we'll hopefully see this bird for many years to come. @btobirds.bsky.social #BirdRinging
Photo of a Coot leg with a ring C218 on it.
Exciting Coot news! Members of Cardiff Uni Ornithological Society & @becky-gibbs.bsky.social recently found this colour-ringed Coot at Roath Park Lake. It was ringed in May '24 at BugΓ₯rdsdammen, Sandefjord in Norway!
Look out for it at the lake on your next visit and drop us a line if you see it! π
Happy #WorldWetlandsDay from WWT Welney! An absolute stunning place, filled with great birds and great people. @Wild_Barley @chezwils
It's up and ready for the first Barn Owl occupants this coming spring. #BirdRinging #NestRecordScheme @btobirds.bsky.social
That is true Phil. I find they are even paler than adult rose thorns. Base colour of the feather is a pretty good feature I find too.
It can't be Christmas without a beautiful Christmas Robin. We don't normally get a worms eye view (see the first picture). This is a juvenile, see the pale tips to the greater coverts on the wing. @_BTO #BirdRinging
A recent trip to WWT Welney gave me the opportunity to take this image. It and would make a lovely jigsaw π€£ Gotta love a male Pochard!
