This is a wonky process but BIG news regarding the Republican budget bill: My staff successfully got multiple provisions removed from the bill. Two key wins: 1) Medicaid provider tax. Striking this means Republicans have to backtrack on hundreds of billions in Medicaid cuts.
The scary truth is that cutting #Medicaid coverage doesn’t just hurt children on Medicaid.
It doesn’t just hurt poor children.
It doesn’t just hurt children with disabilities.
Cutting Medicaid hurts ALL children.

I think the highest risk of being cut is Vaccines for Children’s program since it’s government run. That keeps me up at night. I’m less concerned that we’ll see private insurance follow but time will tell
People are rightfully worried that the gutting of #ACIP will result in insurance NOT covering vaccines.
I don’t see that happening.
Vaccines prevent costly illnesses/ hospitalizations. If there is ONE thing that motivates insurance companies to do the right thing, it’s saving $
Good thing we can rely on safety net hospitals when kids get sick from these decisions….
Until #Medicaid is CUT. #Pediatric beds CUT. Trained staff CUT. Transport CUT.
Watch what happens when you pull the rug out from both preventative care and hospital care at the same time.

Why should you care about #Medicaid even if YOU don’t use Medicaid? B/c cutting it will result in closure of #pediatric services for ALL kids. Imagine a bakery that sells 🥧 . If 50% of patrons can’t pay for 🥧 , then you can’t stay in business to bake for patrons that CAN pay.
I’m now the proud owner of a Sesame Bean #Labubu, a thing I didn’t know existed or I needed until a week ago.
We currently have 3 previously healthy children on full life support in PDX for Influenza even though it’s May.
226 children in the US have died of influenza this year, the most since 2010.
If only there were some way to prevent this?

It doesn’t. It’s also useless. You could make the argument it can be used to treat a bacterial pneumonia secondary to measles, but it wouldn’t be the antibiotic of choice in pediatrics…
Hi. Board certified pediatric critical care physician here to tell you that nebulized budesonide is not useful for any critically ill child ever. For anything.
It’s especially not useful for:
- measles
- pneumonia
- sepsis
- Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
