Trump adds pressure to pass the SAVE America Act, with new anti-trans provisions
The president said he won't sign new legislation until Congress adds voter ID and mail-in ballot restrictions, as well as unrelated provisions targeting transgender athletes and children.
The bill already faces a 60-vote threshold for passage in the Senate that it canβt meet without Democrats. Adding anti-trans measures and mail-in ballot restrictions further complicates any chance of passing.

Republicans have tried many ways to pass their keystone elections bill.
- they reintroduced it in the House under a new name
- mounted online pressure campaigns on congressional leadership
- threatened to tank other legislation.
Now, Trump is throwing anti-trans policies at it

Trump seems to believe that attaching these anti-trans riders to the SAVE America Act would improve its chances in the Senate, one advocate said. But that's just not reality.
βPutting those riders into the SAVE America Act would actually turn off more senators than it would inspire them.β

There are no provisions in the SAVE America Act on gender-affirming care or transgender athletes, despite Trumpβs new priorities list.
House Republicans have tried to pass anti-trans laws, but barely any make it out of Congress. They get stripped in the Senate.

The moms risking arrest to protect gender-affirming care for trans youth
The government wants to ban the care nationwide. Hospitals are shutting down treatment. Parents just want it all to stop.
Larissa, a therapist from D.C., recently spent 12 hours in a jail cell with five other people. There was no running water, since the sink wasnβt working. They were all fed once: a baloney sandwich per person.
She was there for her trans patients. They're being hurt by this administration, she said.

βThey better take away duct tapeβ: Trans men say theyβll keep binding despite FDA crackdown
Chest binders are a common first step to explore gender identity. Restricting them could push people back to unsafe DIY methods.
This story was fun to write bc itβs mostly older trans guys being like βwe used to bind uphill both ways in the snowβ
But in all seriousness, binding used to be the wild west. Duct tape, electrical tape, ACE bandages. Now we have good products. But the FDA is cracking down on those. Read more:
