Thank you for your perspective. Many of these representations emerge as part of their daily routines (daily calendar: tally marks and tens frames). In this class students use strategies that resonate with them and there is a lot of choice. This is just a snapshot of one part of the environment.

We played Make 10 and Fraction Tracks from TERC Investigations. We explored was of adapting each to meet the needs of all mathematicians. My session had teachers from elementary through high school!

Division and fractions are not two distinct concepts even if your curriculum separates them into different modules or units.
I recommend moving from equal group problems with whole number solutions to fractional amounts less than a whole within the same context/problem. #iteachmath #mathsky #edusky
