Thank you for your perspective. Many of these representations emerge as part of their daily routines (daily calendar: tally marks and tens frames). In this class students use strategies that resonate with them and there is a lot of choice. This is just a snapshot of one part of the environment.

Division and fractions are not two distinct concepts even if your curriculum separates them into different modules or units.
I recommend moving from equal group problems with whole number solutions to fractional amounts less than a whole within the same context/problem. #iteachmath #mathsky #edusky
