A screenshot of a book called The Lowland Clearances, Scotlandβs Silent Revolution, 1760 - 1830. Written by Pete Aitchison and Andrew Cassell.
A compelling book.
It should be read widely; used as a resource in classrooms across Scotland.

It is my view that #GeneticEditing is useful science, but that it should be kept in the laboratory, not out in fields across Scotland.
CRISPR technology offers significant potential for insight and development but I think that Scotland is better served by being somewhere #OrganicFarms can flourish.
It could be argued that this makes it even more crucial there remain nations which are not using such technologies as standard.
Some test crops show mistakes can be made. If those mistakes get into wild populations you can end up in uncharted territory with many regrets, as evidenced elsewhere.

βThere will be countries all over the world doing the same thing but to be a place where nations can come to get seed, food and drink that doesnβt have any of those concerns is so important, especially if youβre looking at the organic marketβ

Supermarkets have immense influence over the food and drink we see on the shelves and huge control, for better and worse. As customers, we can make the choice to help change things for the better.

'We know the people producing Scotlandβs food and drink do a solid job of delivering traceable high-quality items. From farmers to food scientists, trading standards [ @fsscot.bsky.social] and beyond, we have a system which works hard to keep us safe'

#Ardnamurchan is a beautiful place, shaped by centuries of history.
The Clearances had a devastating impact on the people who lived there but the community endured.
This book is the result of three years of work with the people who make Ardnamurchan what it is today: so much more than a postcard.
This looks like an amazing book by photographer #GlynSatterly, celebrating the community who live in Ardnamurchan, set in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Scotland
