Granted I've only worked for 3 different local news companies, but none of them use ai for writing. Things like grammerly, sure, Otter might be used only after listening to make sure it is correct, and some folks get headline or summary help when stumped, but no reporter uses ai for actual writing.

We've all been taught in school that the US is a melting pot, so I'd even argue that every soldier in the last at least 80 years who has died for this country has died for multiculturalism

They can't imagine a world in which people are motivated to act simply by witnessing the atrocities committed by their own government. It always has to be excused as activists being paid or coerced.

You have to register to vote, so the state already knows who you are and where you live. You don't have to register to drink. Seems simple enough to understand, if you are inclined to understand things

I listened in on NYS's PUC hearing for National Grid's rate increase last year for an article I was writing. A commissioner mentioned NG had a right to make profit under state law. Tried to find the law but couldn't. I'm totally ignorant on all of this, so this convo is much appreciated!

Ok so if it was a mistake, why do other ice agents keep using it as a threat when confronted by other observers?

Just imagine if, instead of spending millions on "quantum sensors" we invested in providing everyone healthcare. So many people who become addicts these days do so because of un/undertreated medical issues. But yes, let's continue to waste money on policing instead of actually fixing the root issue

While visiting a Tim Hortons in Canada, I lost my wallet. It was part of a long road trip with a friend. Our first big trip away after high school. I was worried the whole rest of the trip. But a nice Canadian stranger mailed it back to my house in New Jersey. Fully intact, including Candian bills

And if they are not paid, they are exploited or tricked into participating. Because I guess it's easier to believe that than the reality: that people protesting inhumane treatment are using their god-given free will to speak out against what they see as immoral.

You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof. What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

The article appears to be partly paywalled and I would encourage anyone who can afford it to subscribe, Slate's got a hell of a sale going right now and subscriptions are how they can afford to pay freelancers for articles like this one

For my fellow brokies, though:

In this video, it seems obvious why an officer could fear she was going to run into him with her vehicle. Wow! I hadn't seen this angle. He had a reason to feel threatened. It is done.

In case you’re wondering whether the pro-ICE reactions to Renee Nicole Good’s murder are natural, here’s a comment that was just left on my video. My video about anti-transgender bias at the BBC. I haven’t made a video about Good yet.

Those listing weren't always accurate. It listed my house at risk of flood because we had a mostly dried up brook (i assume that's the reason) behind our house.

A Friend’s Death to Mourn, and to Serve Time for An Alabama teen was shot alongside his friend, then prosecuted for his killing. His case highlights a particularly harsh doctrine in American criminal punishment: felony murder.

The seeming disconnect of prosecuting someone for murder over a killing they didn’t commitβ€”what’s known as β€œfelony murder”—has sparked public outrage and confusion in some cases. Today, forty-eight states permit some version of it.
