I wonβt post anything about the remnant leeks I saw out in the wild today. Happy to see there are parts of #hamont still rich with spring ephemerals π

I propose a rolling landscaping equipment blackout - staggered per ward - every several weeks, whether it be lawn mower, leaf blower, etc. Even just one Saturday or Sunday per month.
The βapplesβ are edible if ripe, just be careful about timing as they can cause stomach upset otherwise.
Happy to see @thespec1846.bsky.social
incorporating some uplifting news into their content cycle. I find 3 page articles covering murder in #hamont to be objectionable and people need to see some good news for a change to know whatβs possible. H

A brook trout populated creek in Flamborough that could use some love. Itβs overwidened and in full sun, making it higher in temperature than it should be.
What type of tree is this?
Gorgeous book, great for cozy rainy days inside.
A photograph of the black berries and pink stems found on pokeweed, against a backdrop of bright spring-green pokeweed leaves.
As spring gets going in earnest, I'd love if you #ontarionativeplants enthusiasts could help spread the word about this BlueSky feed as well as the discord server (contact me for invite link). Would love to have more off-Facebook community for this hobby π

Yes! Cornus sericea. Great winter aesthetic and valuable host plant/pollinator plant.
Thanks for the response!
Nice to have a story behind the art πΌοΈ

Patiently waiting for the new trees and shrubs to pop. We enjoyed the warm weather after work :)
Let me know if youβre interested in receiving any free native plants I propagate annually for the community. Available in mid-late May.

Is the concrete coming back? Was surprised to see it missing.
This is great, thanks for sharing π
A wealth tax on the richest people in the country would put more money in Canadians pocket.
Yet both Liberals and Conservatives would rather billionaires thrive while you struggle.

Just a heads up, your logo is a Norway maple leaf, considered invasive:

For those concerned with the amount of road salt on the streets that will eventually make their way into our waterways, there are alternatives.
This one has some particular advantages if you do a little digging:

This stand of switchgrass toppled over after that dumping of snow we had a week or so ago.
With that setting with lots of indigenous seed, it looks like the equivalent of a cozy couch and bag of chips for birds π
That must have been heartbreaking to see all that greenspace lost! Hopefully that type of clearing en masse has ended in Dundas today.
Thank you! I will make a mental note to take you up on that offer :)
Me too π€
Agreed!
Maybe youβd permit me to collect some acorns from your backyard this fall? I grow trees from seed and share them in the neighbourhood :)
Thereβs a home in my neighbourhood (206 Farleigh Ave S.) for sale with a ~200 year old Red Oak and Iβm worried about itβ¦. π£

A little late but the colours are warm and welcome this time of year :)
A reminder to take a deep breath, stretch out and relax when you can find the time.
One of my most disliked #InvasivePlants is Common Burdock (Arctium minus). Specifically because of the cruel way it kills small North American #birds.
