Anyone on here from Montana? I'm moving to Glasgow soon and would love to chat with Montanas about what to expect!

INSIDE WASHINGTON: Trump has ground the Senate to a halt to pass the SAVE America Act. And it's turned into the latest contest for Trump's affection between John Cornyn and Ken Paxton.

What about people who canβt afford paper and pens? You could make that argument about any form of communication so I am not sure what point youβre making
Eh. Depends on what you use it for. I've moved around a lot for my work. Have close friends in several US states and throughout the UK. Facebook and Instagram have been good for me keeping in contact with them. I don't say that to hand wave your ethical concerns, though; there are plenty of them!!
Worth reading by @chriscurtis94.bsky.social. Abundantly clear to anyone that spends a cursory amount of time on public opinion that economic insecurity, exacerbated 10x by cost of living crisis is driving political force of our time, fuelling Labourβs woes chriscurtismk.substack.com/p/who-actual...
That's as true of social media algorithms as it is ChatGPT, Claude, etc. In fact it may be worse with social media?
In their lawsuit against NEH, ACLS, AHA, MLA, etc., include as an exhibit the AI-produced DOGE spreadsheet that determined if a project was too DEI for Trump. Here is the spreadsheet www.historians.org/wp-content/u...
The US is widely reported to have hit the Qeshm desalination plant. The response from Iran suggests they may now use the precedent to justify attacks on Gulf plants. Attacking critical civilian infrastructure is a war crime. The Govt must seek an urgent explanation from the US.
Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together. This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.
OpenAI head of robotics just resigned over company deal with the Pentagon sayingβ¦

So many critics of Bluesky donβt understand that I want nothing to do with algorithms. I just want a chronological list of posts by people I choose to follow. For whatever reason.
Really that simple.
A chill fell across the University of Mississippiβs campus when Chancellor Glenn Boyce fired Lauren Stokes for sharing a post that called Charlie Kirk a racist.
It left faculty afraid to speak their minds, several testified in federal court, where Stokes is challenging her termination.
Oops. I guess Speaker Mike Johnson's reassurance yesterday that it's not a war, only a "limited operation," is no longer operative.
βI guessβ¦ like I said, some people will dieβ is an astonishing sentence to hear from the President of the United States
I am not saying Graham Platner is anything, but asking questions about whether a man whose judgment is so poor he got a Nazi symbol tattooed on his body should be in a position of enormous public trust is not unreasonable
Some career news: I have accepted a job serving as the editor of a newspaper in Montana! Big Sky is moving to Big Sky Country!
I donβt know if Talarico becomes a top tier candidate for β28, but he certainly becomes a major force within the party
Still, Iβm not ready to game out anything past November. We donβt even know who is the GOP nominee heβll run against. Turning Texas blue is still just a Democratic fantasy
βIf you wonβt answer my gotcha question about a completely unrelated topic you must be lyingβ is the argument a child throwing a tantrum makes
What happened in Dallas County last night sounds like a crime against democracy and deliberate voter suppression. Democrats nationwide need to pay attention
Jasmine Crockett throwing a journalist out of her event is right out of the Donald Trump playbook. Not a good look for the Congresswoman, and not an indication that she respects press freedom
Across social media and the Al industry, people immediately began to challenge Altman's claim. Why, they asked, would the Pentagon suddenly agree to the red lines that it had said β in no uncertain terms β that it would never do so? The answer, sources told The Verge, is that the Pentagon didn't budge. OpenAl agreed to follow laws that have allowed for mass surveillance in the past, while insisting they protect its red lines. One source familiar with the Pentagon's negotiations with Al companies confirmed that OpenAl's deal is much softer than the one Anthropic was pushing for, thanks largely to three words: "any lawful use." In negotiations, the person said, the Pentagon wouldn't back down on its desire to collect and analyze bulk data on Americans. If you look line-by-line at the OpenAl terms, the source said, every aspect of it boils down to: If it's technically legal, then the US military can use OpenAl's technology to carry it out. And over the past decades, the US government has stretched the definition of "technically legal" to cover sweeping mass surveillance programs - and more.
Sam Altman got played and spun it like a win - @haydenfield.bsky.social has the scoop from a weekendβs worth of reporting from inside the Pentagon AI negotiations. www.theverge.com/ai-artificia...
π¨ CONFIRMED: A drone - of unknown origin - hit the UK'S RAF Akrotiri base a short while ago which resulted in damage but no reported casualties
My favourite person is only 24. God, I can't wait for him to turn 26 and age out of the draft. This is so scary
I have no love for the Ayatollah and the Iranian regime, so I will not mourn its demise (if indeed it comes to pass). I worry about the long-term plan, or lack thereof. The President owes the American people an immediate explanation about what the goals and plans are. We need an Oval Office address
A sad, damning indictment of the Ellisons and Bari Weiss
This is amazing.
www.getyourfuckingmoneyback.com
Iβve already cancelled Paramount+. If the Ellisons also get control of HBO Max Iβll cancel that as well
I canβt and wonβt support the Ellisons in any way, shape, or form
Iβll take sanctimonious pricks on the left over outright Nazis and fascists any day
Itβs like comparing apples and Agent Orange
I mean, itβs really rich to make this argument about Bluesky users while defending X against charges itβs a fascistic racist Nazi platform lol
