What about people who can’t afford paper and pens? You could make that argument about any form of communication so I am not sure what point you’re making

Eh. Depends on what you use it for. I've moved around a lot for my work. Have close friends in several US states and throughout the UK. Facebook and Instagram have been good for me keeping in contact with them. I don't say that to hand wave your ethical concerns, though; there are plenty of them!!

Worth reading by @chriscurtis94.bsky.social. Abundantly clear to anyone that spends a cursory amount of time on public opinion that economic insecurity, exacerbated 10x by cost of living crisis is driving political force of our time, fuelling Labour’s woes chriscurtismk.substack.com/p/who-actual...

The US is widely reported to have hit the Qeshm desalination plant. The response from Iran suggests they may now use the precedent to justify attacks on Gulf plants. Attacking critical civilian infrastructure is a war crime. The Govt must seek an urgent explanation from the US.

Caitlin KALINOWSKI over X

I resigned from OpenAl. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together.
This wasn't an easy call. Al has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I'm proud of what we built together.

OpenAI head of robotics just resigned over company deal with the Pentagon saying…

So many critics of Bluesky don’t understand that I want nothing to do with algorithms. I just want a chronological list of posts by people I choose to follow. For whatever reason.

Really that simple.

I am not saying Graham Platner is anything, but asking questions about whether a man whose judgment is so poor he got a Nazi symbol tattooed on his body should be in a position of enormous public trust is not unreasonable

I don’t know if Talarico becomes a top tier candidate for β€˜28, but he certainly becomes a major force within the party

Still, I’m not ready to game out anything past November. We don’t even know who is the GOP nominee he’ll run against. Turning Texas blue is still just a Democratic fantasy

Across social media and the Al industry, people immediately began to challenge Altman's claim.
Why, they asked, would the Pentagon suddenly agree to the red lines that it had said β€” in no uncertain terms β€” that it would never do so?
The answer, sources told The Verge, is that the Pentagon didn't budge. OpenAl agreed to follow laws that have allowed for mass surveillance in the past, while insisting they protect its red lines.
One source familiar with the Pentagon's negotiations with Al companies confirmed that OpenAl's deal is much softer than the one Anthropic was pushing for, thanks largely to three words: "any lawful use." In negotiations, the person said, the Pentagon wouldn't back down on its desire to collect and analyze bulk data on Americans. If you look line-by-line at the OpenAl terms, the source said, every aspect of it boils down to: If it's technically legal, then the US military can use OpenAl's technology to carry it out. And over the past decades, the US government has stretched the definition of
"technically legal" to cover sweeping mass surveillance programs - and more.

I have no love for the Ayatollah and the Iranian regime, so I will not mourn its demise (if indeed it comes to pass). I worry about the long-term plan, or lack thereof. The President owes the American people an immediate explanation about what the goals and plans are. We need an Oval Office address
