Some decades ago the size fetish wasn't as big as it is now, so not many people would've seen a kaiju and ever thought about it appealing to people in that way

I don't feel like that's the case, and I feel there's still some kaiju and giant monster movies. If I had to point to something, it could be that the more common knowledge of size as a fetish prevents movies from including it in fear of seeming too fetishised.
