7/ Additionally, there is concern over a revolving door of directors who lack journalism background.
6/ IMO:Also at issue is the fact that World Press Photo has increasingly adopted an activist orientation rather than maintaining a commitment to neutrality important to photojournalism (this type of blurred activism photography, there is little market, look around &see who is working and who is not)
5/ This approach raises serious questions about the film’s journalistic integrity and the “villainy” narrative for which the filmmakers secured funding, and classic cheap trick of portraying Nick dark music and dark lighting when he is shown in the film.
5/ The film does not definitively establish that the stringer took THAT PHOTO, the “Napalm Girl” photograph. In much of the film, Gary Knight, as “Pontius Pilate”, leads the narrative.
4/ The re-edit of film is one-sided and begins with a verdict; moreover, it lacks eyewitness testimony from Trang Bang. The filmmakers dismissed eyewitness accounts as “not true.”
3/ NYT Review on The Stringer:
"there’s also something rotten about a documentary that tries (and fails) to spin such a typical drama into an epic of villainy and regret.” www.nytimes.com/2025/11/27/m...
