Birch trees shrouded in mist, with a low winter sun behind. The scene reflected in a lake
Imbolc - The sun is swimming back to the sky. The Goddess of Winter is dreaming of spring. Take time to smile at snowdrops & the gently swelling buds on the trees. Winter dances with a gleam in her eyes π±

We need words of kindness more than ever just now. I'll be telling one of these tales for advent this year. #advent #storytelling #wordsofkindness
Gradpa's Soup, by Jackie Kay No one makes soup like my Grandpaβs, with its diced carrots the perfect size and its diced potatoes the perfect size and its wee soft bits β what are their names? and its big bit of hough, which ryhmes with loch, floating like a rich island in the middle of the soup sea. I say, Grandpa, Grandpa your soup is the best soup in the whole world. And Grandpa says, Och, which rhymes with hough and loch, Och, Donβt be daft, because heβs shy about his soup, my Grandpa. He knows I will grow up and pine for it. I will fall ill and desperately need it. I will long for it my whole life after he is gone. Every soup will become sad and wrong after he is gone. He knows when Iβm older I will avoid soup altogether. Oh Grandpa, Grandpa, why is your soup so glorious? I say tucking into my fourth bowl in a day. Barley! Thatβs the name of the wee soft bits. Barley.
We've had the first snowfall of the year so it was about time to make broth. I made it lovingly, the way my Granda did. I loved his soup. Mine never quite measures up. Not the same recipe as Jackie Kay's grandpa, yet the sentiment is the same ππ² #grandpassoup

More solar farms, forests, space for wildlife... yes, but Earth isn't getting any bigger. On the Fully Charged show podcast this week, Tom Heap (my Rare Earth co-host) is sharing his wisdom with Robert on land & how we could/should use it. Well worth a listen:

Map detail east of Scotland between Dundee and Aberdeen showing distribution of grey and red squirrels
Once upon a time I could be found in the woods at 5am watching squirrels, collecting hair samples and analysing data on squirrel distribution in Scotland. Since then Aberdeen has become almost Grey free. However greys are still migrating North. Report your sittings!

In Shropshire, one must 'Tell The Bees' of a death in the household. In 1961, the Bee's of Sam Rogers from Myddle (totalling 14 hives) were told of his passing. They turned up at his funeral service and settled on the flowers at his grave π

Agree. I've swum off the coast at Cape Wrath & it was exhilarating. No desire to bare myself to Scottish waters again though π₯Ά
