During an ongoing audit of Ohio’s Statewide Voter Registration Database, investigators with the Secretary of State’s Election Integrity Unit used newly available state and federal records to uncover evidence of an additional 78 noncitizen voter registrations, including nine individuals who cast potentially fraudulent votes. “My office has a zero-tolerance policy for election crime in Ohio, and I’m hopeful that our prosecutors will as well,” said Secretary LaRose. “Even one illegal vote can spoil the outcome of an election, which is why we established the first-ever Election Integrity Unit in this state to root out lawbreakers and demand accountability and justice.” https://www.ohiosos.gov/media-center/press-releases/2025/2025-09-16/
As in Ohio, national Republicans haven’t produced any evidence that noncitizen voting is a substantial problem. There are severe penalties for noncitizen voting, and they seem to be an effective deterrent. A Brennan Center for Justice study of the 2016 election found noncitizen voting occurred at the vanishingly small rate of 0.0001%. That’s one-fifth the rate of fraud of all types that LaRose found in the 2020 election — 0.0005%. I'm an election worker in Ohio. Did you know:
- ballots are checked repeatedly by humans and computers
- we check ID and do provisional ballots if there is a discrepency
- bipartisan party members handle ballots
- election sites are graded on our accuracy
Election fraud is nearly non-existent.

Video of LRADs deployed in Minneapolis immediately reminded me of militarized assault on #NoDAPL water protectors in 2016/17, which echoed 20th c assaults. Detention at Ft. Snelling has an older, longer, painful history.
