A post from Yoni Appelbaum that reads "Albuquerque turned a wall of its airport bookshop over to its local university press, and goddamn, now I want this in every airport." The post includes a photo of a wall of books with a sign that says University of New Mexico Press.
I usually avoid posting things from the other place but I will make an exception because this is so damn cool. @yappelbaum.bsky.social

Apologies to all my friends on Substack. I'd gritted my teeth and supported you because I love your work. But Substack's partnership with Polymarket is the last straw for me.
All from Minnesota. Love to see it.
Just a reminder as Trump spews complete lies about voter fraud that he put the full weight of his first administration into proving some of this bullshit and they came up completely empty.
Our release date is still seven months away, but my book is now up on the Yale website. Grateful to so many people who helped make this possible.

Jessica Chopin Roney will take over after the Library Company of Philadelphia merges with Temple University. She has existing ties to both institutions.
Look, now that we're trying for real consequences for the Epstein files, maybe we should also take another look at the Panama Papers

I keep thinking of this horrific comparison.
They donβt know what theyβre missingβ¦.
Hard to believe itβs been 24 years since The Wire premiered.
Thousands of institutions abandoned programs, ended or rewrote scholarships, closed down clubs and publications, all in pre-emptive compliance.
And you know why?
Mostly because they wanted to do it if they thought they could blame someone else for it.

NEW: A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to restore the slavery exhibits removed from the President's House in Philadelphia.
βEach person who visits the Presidentβs House and does not learn of the realities of founding-era slavery receives a false account of this countryβs history.β β U.S. District Judge Cynthia M. Rufe

The Trump administration has diverted law enforcement officers from across the government to help ICE, yet arrests have increased only among immigrants with no criminal convictions.
Just a reminder that Minneapolis is still under siege. Horrifying things happened while we were all distracted with certain football game halftime drama. This is all still happening and you all need to refocus. Your civil liberties are being dismantled in real time.
During an ongoing audit of Ohioβs Statewide Voter Registration Database, investigators with the Secretary of Stateβs Election Integrity Unit used newly available state and federal records to uncover evidence of an additional 78 noncitizen voter registrations, including nine individuals who cast potentially fraudulent votes. βMy office has a zero-tolerance policy for election crime in Ohio, and Iβm hopeful that our prosecutors will as well,β said Secretary LaRose. βEven one illegal vote can spoil the outcome of an election, which is why we established the first-ever Election Integrity Unit in this state to root out lawbreakers and demand accountability and justice.β https://www.ohiosos.gov/media-center/press-releases/2025/2025-09-16/
As in Ohio, national Republicans havenβt produced any evidence that noncitizen voting is a substantial problem. There are severe penalties for noncitizen voting, and they seem to be an effective deterrent. A Brennan Center for Justice study of the 2016 election found noncitizen voting occurred at the vanishingly small rate of 0.0001%. Thatβs one-fifth the rate of fraud of all types that LaRose found in the 2020 election β 0.0005%. But those infinitesimal numbers havenβt stopped him from conducting massive voter purges, limiting drop boxes, and otherwise making it harder to vote. https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2025/03/26/noncitizen-voting-is-very-rare-in-ohio-and-america-not-having-proof-of-citizenship-isnt/
I'm an election worker in Ohio. Did you know:
- ballots are checked repeatedly by humans and computers
- we check ID and do provisional ballots if there is a discrepency
- bipartisan party members handle ballots
- election sites are graded on our accuracy
Election fraud is nearly non-existent.

Now for the rest of the babies theyβve shoved into that detention center.
Video of LRADs deployed in Minneapolis immediately reminded me of militarized assault on #NoDAPL water protectors in 2016/17, which echoed 20th c assaults. Detention at Ft. Snelling has an older, longer, painful history.
If you know Indigenous history, you recognize the patterns immediately.
