The world factbook was an invaluable resource in asylum petitionsβ€”a place where the federal government acknowledged in writing that, for example, Tibetans face systematic repression in China. I don’t like to have it vanish.

Daily share! Doing this until 2/5. Entries have basically tapered off but I’m hopeful we can get this up past 500.

'measles outbreak at the child prison' seems entirely avoidable, it's really the kind of thing that only happens if you do several unthinkably evil things on purpose all at once

02.02.2026 04:31 πŸ‘ 14108 πŸ” 4638 πŸ’¬ 137 πŸ“Œ 77

the news cycle right now is unbearable. between the abduction & imprisonment of these children and the new wave of revelations about the child fucking elite, i just do not understand. how can you look at a child and feel any of those things. it seems incompatible with what i know about being human.

NYC nurses are still striking for safer conditions at work. If you have the means, it’s worth contributing to their strike hardship fund.

Boosting regularly until 2/5. Thank you for your help! We’re up to 281 raised to be split between two organizations. I would love to crack 500 for both organizations, and would be delighted to exceed that.

Gratitude to everyone who has helped share this and contributed so far πŸ«€

The Nikita Gill poem text (also in the video alt text):

IN 150 CHARACTERS OR LESS

Everything is on fire, but everyone I love is doing beautiful things
and trying to make life worth living,
and I know I don’t have to believe in everything,
but I believe in that.

I draw a holiday card every year & by coincidence, this year’s featured a loon. I’m putting the original drawing to use & raffling it to raise funds for the Immigrant Rapid Response fund in MN & the Undocumented Women’s Fund in NYC. Venmo @ Caroline-Harrison, $1 = 1 entry, unltd entries, thru 2/5.

A hand holds a knife against a grassy background. The blade is long and rectangular (I think a nakiri blade?) and made of Damascus steel so there’s a rippling effect on the surface. The handle is made of sapwood so the rippling effect is echoed there in the dark grain of the wood set up right against a light grain running the length of the handle. A tiny embossed logo near the hilt has a hand throwing the horns with a small star between the raised index and pinkie fingers.

The knife’s sheath, made of matching sapwood, is in the palm of the hand. For some reason this photo is a little artificially dark (probably compression when it was uploaded to Instagram)

Adding this lovely kitchen knife collaboration between Sean Fitzsimmons (blacksmith) and Jason Swienckowski (woodworker), featuring Damascus steel and a sapwood handle / sheath. 10 to enter, sean-fitzsimmons-3 on Venmo, funds go to the National Immigration Project www.instagram.com/p/DT7_16OkWV...

Reminder that the border is currently defined as a 100 mile from any coastline, and so @schumer.senate.gov and @kirstengillibrand.bsky.social and TONS of other democratic senators are directly throwing their own constituents to the fucking wolves

27.01.2026 18:10 πŸ‘ 13 πŸ” 4 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 1

And if Congress ever legislated on the matter in good faith (I know, I know), it seems obvious that there should be a distinction made between land border areas, rivers, etc. where crossing is a realistic possibility and frickin oceanic coastline.

27.01.2026 17:59 πŸ‘ 316 πŸ” 31 πŸ’¬ 12 πŸ“Œ 2

Have seen a number of people (astutely) post the 100 mile border zone map which rings the country as a refutation of the second idea. But it's worth pointing out that border zone is the creature of regulation and a bad SCOTUS decision; Congress has never actually taken the matter in hand afaik.

there is no earthly reason to believe that these goons will comply with any new regulations! it’s like if I put a sign on my door ordering the pines not to drop their needles! they’re pines and those needles will drop! zero funding, β€œreform” my ass, this guy must be stopped
