As I recall, we could opt to have an emergency call to OnStar made, or not if the PedPro system fired. Then, we had to figure out what to advise the customer (the PedPro hinging could be pushed back down, allowing normal visibility but still leaving a message on the vehicle.

Another wild one was finding out very late in the project that the US was getting the pedestrian protection hood (again, first implementation of that in the US). We had a good bit of internal debate on how to handle it, along with all the training etc.
I had a wonderful time working at GM, and am an avid wagon-eer (my DD is a 2009 Saab 9-3 sportcombi), and I was waiting for the TRex with bated breath. I was at OnStar, and the TRex/Regal was launched with the EU OnStar design (allowing driver to hide location from OnStar blue button advisor)
I was working at GM at the time. The Opel divestiture happened right around the launch. Some of the European model content decisions were tough to deal with for North America (remote start only available on the Essence trim, for instance).
Exactly----had the Commodore done well for Holden (interestingly it did reasonably well in New Zealand....) there would have been more of a case to potentially source it from China or North America (as they did for the Acadia/Equinox)
unfortunately after development GM sold off Opel to Stellantis. The TourX was a gap-filler for the Buick lineup (not to mention Holden). Once the business was sold, there was no reason to keep the Russelsheim plant fully utilized there and no reason for GM to continue the vehicle. Unfortunately....

believe US Customs has facilities in Dubai (to support CBP processing for airline passengers--) so they do it there and fly stuff in in essence domestically. Similar to flying between US and Canada...you clear customs/immigration in Canada in nearly every city.
