I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.
A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.
It was only two weeks ago when we first saw an ICE agent unholster his sidearm at Broadview. Since then, there have been many reports of agents directly pointing their guns at protesters. The escalation is escalating.
Fun fact: you can live and breathe the cointelpro handbook without being a fed but just by being a dick.
Even when immigrants are being detained, we see the impact of know your rights information. The family detained at Millenium Park refused to answer questions about their status and also asked for a warrant. Once at Broadview processing center, they also refused to sign a voluntary departure form.

What we're seeing in the "don't sign up for protests" discourse is what Paulo Freire described as the convert's failure to trust the knowledge of the oppressed. As the convert tries to stand in solidarity with the oppressed, they refuse to let go of a world where they were the authority by default.
Russia - Being gay makes you a terrorist.
Britain - Opposing genocide makes you a terrorist.
U.S.A. - Being Anti Fascist makes you a terrorist.
It's almost as if the authoritarian government model is using "terrorism" as a political thought terminator for reasons....
Is a celebrity comedian being cancelled for the mildest political speech bad? Of course. And yet we wouldn’t be here had people taken a moral stand years earlier. Had we not already normalized cancelling anti-imperial political speech.
I would care a lot more about Kimmel if so many of the people bemoaning his cancellation had given a fraction of that concern to folks being cancelled for supporting Palestine.
Let's all to take a deep breath & understand that we have reached the phase in fascism where if they want to declare you a criminal, you are a criminal. You can not magically avoid it, or do exactly the right thing to stay off the list. Fascism must always have enemies, and one day you will be one.

Thinking a lot this morning about how the dispersed nature of these kidnappings over such a broad area makes it so easy for them to avoid making bigger waves. The surface can appear totally calm while they're grabbing neighbors, and most people have no idea until/unless something flashy happens
