It is not about content quality and moderation, it is about how our information flows are making impossible to have a shared reality. Without it, democracy doesn’t work
Have a relatively shared reality, and their voting behaviour is not too affected by this epistemic rupture. However the minority far from that reality seems to have more weight in the digital public square, they seem to have conquered a sort-of information hegemony. How do we change that?
I fully agree with this idea and try to explain it to policy makers every time I get the opportunity. Yet, a factor to take into account is why the epistemic rupture of a shared reality is still (IMHO) affecting a small minority of the population. The little data we have demonstrate most people

If China wants to avoid a disaster they should take the Russian challenge seriously. They need to understand that they are now being manipulated by Russia and the prosperity they seek is being menaced by Russia’s behaviour.
But it is all an illusion. Again, Russia has no economy, military, industry or innovation to even compete with the EU or India, let alone with China or the US.
If Russia is successful in Ukraine they will eventually expand their influence towards their eastern border: central asia, Mongolia…a much much weaker area than Europe and much easier to penetrate due to their past.
China knows this is not true, China can sink Russia in two weeks and force a regime change in Moscow whenever they want.
Yet, managing a decrepit superpower is delicate and I think China is not reading the signals correctly, or is playing a very long game.
Therefore, the only way to gain geopolitical space is through brute force. Ukraine, their hybrid warfare in Europe and their colonialist behaviour are just ways to tell China: we are equals, we are two parts of a global power troika.
Today Russia is at best, a middle power. It has a mediocre military, a weak economy and zero innovation and science.
What it does have (and neither US nor China have) is a brutal repressive dictatorship able to sacrifice thousands of lives without eroding their grip on power
Putin is demanding by brute force a place at the table of those ruling the world. US and China have a seat because of their economies, their scientific might, military and influence. Russia is far from any of those.
