Crips for eSims for Gaza Crips for eSims for Gaza is a collaboration between Jane Shi, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, and Alice Wong.

chuffed.org/project/crip... this is my regular reminder that we are still here and working to stay out of the red. Celebrate and honor Ramadan by considering spreading the word and donating to us. Let Gaza communications ring freely. You can't stop the signal.

Prison-Style Free Speech Censorship Is Coming for the Rest of Us The outcome of a court case could decide whether the Trump administration can criminalize simply possessing political literature.

"While this censorship might seem brazenly anti-constitutional to most Americans, it has been the reality faced by incarcerated individuals for decades. In the name of 'security,' prison officials have punished and even killed people for possessing literature they deemed suspect." @theintercept.com

Librarians will bend over backwards to reduce barriers to access for their patrons and fully ignore barriers to access for their colleagues.

Libraryland, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

PROVIDING INTERVIEW QUESTIONS AHEAD OF TIME IS AN EQUITY PRACTICE

Trying to play β€œgotcha” with interview questions will NOT get you the most qualified candidate. But it WILL ensure that your library staff are less diverse.

at the risk of jinxing myself: i'm in my last semester of library school, yay! still in burnout mode tho. it's a struggle to make sense of anything when my brain feels like sludge, but i'm getting there. only working one job right now has helped a bit.

It’s worth resharing the #CripLib open letter in response to this since the Editor did not address any of our substantive concerns about the lack of academic rigor in the anti-DEI privacy of thought article: acrlog.org/2025/05/27/o...

i think the point i often want to make is not that people shouldn’t be alarmed or scared, fear is a very reasonable response to what’s happening.

more, i want folks to see fascist pronouncements as they are: battle plans, not accomplished facts, and as such reveal opportunities for resistance.

perhaps one of my favorite things about getting a library degree (besides, you know, getting to organize shit) is that i get to be excited about anthropology again, i get to study all the things i wasn't able to study before due of the niche focus of my phd + ongoing hostile environment trauma

Eugenics was the explicit reason for creating gifted & talented programs and tracking in schools.

It shows up in everything from school rankings to standardized tests to the tenure process.

President Trump’s War on β€œWoke AI” Is a Civil Liberties Nightmare The White House’s recently-unveiled β€œAI Action Plan” wages war on so-called β€œwoke AI”—including large language models (LLMs) that provide information inconsistent with the administration’s views on

It’s no secret that AI modelsβ€”including gen AIβ€”tend to discriminate against racial and gender minorities. When government agencies start using biased AI to make decisions, real people suffer. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

Stop trying to justify AI by arguing "well librarians opposed Wikipedia back in the day too."

They aren't the same thing.

They keep insisting there are good use cases for LLMs, but none of them rise to the level of "this is so important it justifies breaking copyright, destroying the environment, and paying people in the Global South $1 a day to data train the worst parts out."
