Captain America is pretty good, if hampered by the obligation to the third act CGI slugfest. That derails the structure quite a bit. Still, outside that itโ€™s nice to see Eternals acknowledged in the wider MCU at long last.

Tonightโ€™s EastEnders is good and all, but with the flashbacks (and reprise of a certain actor playing a young version of a beloved character) one canโ€™t help but feel for the late Jo Warne and her erasure from Easties history

โ€ฆI wonder whether we're intended to turn it into a guessing game of "Olivier, Lyttelton, Dorfman" โ€“ a very theatrical version of Shag, Marry, Kill (except that I love all three spaces in different ways, of course)

I know it's of little to no consequence, but in the National Theatre's new "What's on in 2025" booklet I received in the post, it's really frustrating that none of the spears put together for each production tell you which theatre the production will actually be inโ€ฆ

I can buy Leo Woodall as the worldโ€™s sexiest maths postgrad in Prime Target (Apple TV+), but not that heโ€™d kick Fra Fee out of bed so that he can scribble a couple more formulas. All believability out the window right there.

Just seen a show that combines a queer choir with a James Joyce short story, and itโ€™s set the bar for what classical music and theatre can deliver in 2025. Full review to be filed, but my heart is full.

At work in Friday we had a team exercise at which we each played โ€œtwo truths and a lieโ€. Mine were:

* Stephen Hawking once ran over my foot with his wheelchair
* I was punched in the arm by Judi Dench
* I won an award for my blogging

I wonder which one is the lieโ€ฆ?

The programme of little Shop of Horrors (book and lyrics Howard Ashman, music Alan Menken) featuring Colin Ryan as Seymour and Georgina Ounorah as Audrey). The programme is held in front of the pre-show stage, upon which are large LCD-style displays with todayโ€™s date, 11/01, displayed. Behind that, an empty tier of seats is visible.

Shouldn't have to say this, but if you are on the front row of the audience at a fringe venue, where the space is so small that you are on the very edge of the performance, please for all that is holy do NOT use the set as a resting place for your wine glass.
