@markusoff.bsky.social Is anyone at CBC looking at the physical altercation involving the Conservative Candidate for Calgary Skyview? This was posted to Hafeez Malik’s Instagram but I haven’t seen any coverage of it.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.
Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.
A mostly blank page with the words Strong and Free, from the English version of the Canadian national anthem ) Below the fold of this newspaper sheet , in smaller type, news and editorial references to the trade war
This is the first page of this morning’s edition of the Globe and Mail (arguably the English Canadian paper of record)
I don’t remember seeing anything like this before
It would be helpful if more people understood renewable energy is actually an extremely disruptive technology and the reason monied interests are trying to make folks hate it is that they are the ones which will be disrupted.
“Those nasty Canadians are ripping us off and are controlled by Mexican cartels. They’re poisoning us with fentanyl and need to become the 51st state or they will pay a high price” is a belief that literally ZERO Americans had six weeks ago. It’s entirely invented from scratch.
Screenshot of an Instagram profile. The text says, “People in Canada can’t see this content. In response to Canadian government legislation, news content can’t be viewed in Canada.”
Meta finally censored the ‘gram. Weird that it was implemented on Facebook ages ago but was only applied to Instagram after Canadians started taking a stand against American fascism. I guess I have to convince all my favourite COVID-conscious accounts to transfer here.
Your regular reminder that the US air & water pollution laws passed in the 60s & 70s -- and the elaborate federal bureaucracy created to administer them -- constitute one of the most successful gov't interventions in history. WILDLY successful. The envy of the world.
No one owes you "health".
Someone who is "unhealthy" based on things you perceive as "choices" are no less worthy of support.
Health is a privilege, mostly based on luck/chance.
It is not a moral superiority.
Danielle Smith should resign.

I contacted a university archive to see if they had a copy of a thesis from 2008 and they told me they recently destroyed all of their theses without digitizing them. So things are obviously going really well out there for libraries and archives right now. 😬
This is true
For everyone who’s been wanting 3M to make a black N95… there’s an awesome Canadian company that’s done just that!

Alberta physician listed on provincial COVID report says he doesn’t agree with findings, demands his name be removed www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/alber...
"...doctors across the country rejected the document as dangerous bunk."
Dr Conly says "not on Alberta’s COVID review panel..."
I am begging the national media to start taking this seriously.
Stop buying the claims that the framing of "temporary" or "pause."
They are altering the review processes of federally funded scientific research from merit-based peer review processes to political screening by ideologues.
There was actually a study that found engaging with “gender critical” videos on TikTok always led to being fed alt-right content. Almost like they’re inherently connected or something. www.mediamatters.org/tiktok/tikto...
Friends, I keep seeing "get a library card!" posts and while yes, that is helpful, it doesn't really mean much unless you *use* it. And just using it won't save programs, funding, or protect from bans. You have to get involved.
I want people to stop posting vague advice like “build community”
A lot of people don’t know how to start. Post practical things like “here’s a list of mutual aid groups to connect with” or something
I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
I know it’s obvious, but I think it’s still worth saying out loud:
Someone who wants to end fact checking wants to be able to lie to you without detection.
When lies are undetected, they start to shape our reality. We’re a lot more vulnerable when we can’t tell that a lie is a lie.
/6 You the media blamed him when he was the only one who has done the work to fix housing issues. You never blamed the Provinces, who are responsible for those issues. You blamed inflation on groceries on the PM, when corps are gouging us for every penny. www.foodandwaterwatch.org/2024/03/26/h...

What will the Conservatives do to social programs if the Cons are elected?
THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Stanford Medicine have devised an influenza vaccine that prompts immunity to ALL four major flu subtypes AND shows potential against bird flu, indicating a significant advancement in flu prevention and a potential increase in vaccine efficacy. Let’s talk about that! 🧪🧵⬇️

I have two directives in life
1. To be a descendant worthy of my ancestors
2. To be an ancestor my descendants can be proud of.
Scientists are worried that persisting cognitive issues may signal a coming surge of dementia and other mental conditions.
The comfort of the rich is dependent upon the suffering of the poor.
Despite working in a library, it is still incredible to me that I can just go on to the Libby app and instantly listen to basically any audiobook that I want for free because public libraries exist.
Egale Canada and Skipping Stone are following through on their vow to challenge Alberta’s new laws affecting transgender youth and adults.
It looks like they are starting with Bill 26 which curtails trans teens’ access to gender-affirming treatment and surgery.
