Brian Evenson's Windeye: For when you want to feel afraid, and also sad.
I just started Life and Fate by Vasily Grossman. An epic novel built of short Chekhov stories. Wonderful.

I teach freshman writing, and I think acting as the AI police is an opposite of teaching. I wrote a letter to my students that is not "AI bad" but a positive (to the point of cringe) argument about why it is worthwhile to do your own reading and writing. robroensch.medium.com/a-letter-to-...
We are pleased to announce the contributors and their stories for Issue 21 of Story! Including stories by @mirarif.bsky.social, Zoe Ballering, Grace Chao, @angieellis.bsky.social, Scott Garson, Max Kruger-Dull, Molly Patterson, Robert Ren, Andrew Roe, Rob Roensch, and Anthony Varallo.

Reading Levis's selected again, day by day, and finally got to the wonderful, wandering "Sleeping Lioness," which I wrote an appreciation of at The Rumpus many years ago
Good defense of the short book. Pressure on the narrative, but windows out, too.
For some reason, it has recently become important to write with the green pen.
My novel, In the Morning, The City is the Prairie, has been in the world for a year. Here's a review in the wonderful The New Territory. I'm heartened by this line: "stylistically minimal, but not without its moments of deep intimacy and reflection." I hope minimalism and intimacy aren't opposites.
Teaching Mark Doty's My Alexandria, a favorite book. As a fiction, I don't get to teach whole books of poetry often. A totally different experience. The end of "The Advent Calendars": "Half the windows are open, / half the windows are closed. / There is no single location of miracle."
Beneath an apple tree, a book rests on top of a wicker picnic basket, propped open by a single red apple

Thank you!
Love these monsters.
Collaged photos. A man leans on a white rock retaining wall, his fly suggestively open. His upper body is a silhouette cutout of another image, ghostly and sensual. Within the cutout is part of a bare torso and arm, also leaning against the rock.

AI can make something that is effective, but it can't make something that is beautiful. That is the test.
My favorite (so far) from the @bellepointpress.bsky.social anthology of sonnets from the Mid-South
It is so useful and cool to carry a pen in your shirt pocket that it is worth the risk of leaking ink. #brave
The font work here is quite pleasant. Slightly more solid. This doesnβt make sense but itβs also like doing homework in middle school, in a good way.
