Really enjoyed the podcast. Other than "Wounds", are there any other books you can recommend to a woefully under informed Englishman about this period?

I enjoyed the podcast more than the film, which may be one of the few times Ken Loach finds himself bracketed with "Boggles: and adventure in time". Not a bad film, but very worthy. Still highlights how shamefully little I know about this period.
Laughs in schadenfreude
For "and introducing" might I suggest (according to imdb) Trevor Bannister, future "Are you being served?" Star, Clive Revill who played the Emperor as hologram in Empire stokes back and WMT favourites Richard Marner of 'allo 'allo fame and Anton Diffring?
Half through the film and the thing it most reminds me of is the description of toxic masculinity surrounding the US test pilot program in Tom Wolfe's "The Right Stuff".
On the point of the tech not aging the film, while I'd agree, I'd also suggest that nothing dates your film quite like having Francois Hollande feature in your opening news crawl.
Top episode, and thanks again for a reason to rewatch not that one is needed. I have questions about the end - why are they escaping in a car if all they need to do is stab him in the leg? But otherwise top film.
Is stupidity a defence?
Things I discovered yesterday:
1. Pickle flavoured ketchup is a thing.
2. It is revolting.
3. In a shop it is easily mistaken for the real thing.
No stiff upper lip nomination for Michael Redgrave smoking a pipe whilst waiting for the Nazis to arrive requires an appeal to VAR.
Ok, but give it time and it'll switch back to Isaac Newton.
Have you not seen the top documentary "Cool runnings"?
This is going to be a hard film to approach with an open mind now. Holding off the pod cast until I've seen it.
To cover all bases

That's the one "IF" statement you can probably guarantee will be covered. Take one to a Norfolk village with single track roads, brick walls either side and oncoming buses or farm machinery for a true test. May also test your nerve.
Absolutely
And the references to "Unforgiven" raises the question do you have civil war classic "The good the bad and the ugly" on the list?
Listening to the pod, and it highlights how my current method of watching these films, on a tablet, split into two parts first half for the morning commute, second part for the evening, may be suboptimal as you found plenty of stuff I'd missed.
Less said about the squealer league the better.
I look forward to the George league Vs Simon League showdown, where the winner goes head to head with Monbiot.
"Films were released and Barry Norman told which ones to see". This sums up so much of my 80s. Wonderful episode, and always a pleasure to hear Hadley Freeman.
And then "War Movie Album Club" a short lived series where you can discuss Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" in case one ever needs an excuse for more Richard Burton.
Reading of course then prompted me to check out the go to reference of English Kings and Queens since William the Conqueror.

JR "Sceptred Isle" by @helencarr.bsky.social, an excellent history of the 14th century chock full of brutal and or narcissistic kings, intrigue, overpowerful courtiers abusing a weak monarch, revolting french and plague. So nothing like modern times at all. Heartily recommended.
Fantastic piece of work this
There has evidently been a catastrophic decline in awareness of "A Muppet Christmas Carol".
Either Peter Cushing or Christopher Lee would give you a fine collection to work through.
But he looks younger than I think Jeeves should look
Whilst Hugh Laurie captured Bertie, Fry always seemed too young for Jeeves.
Any advice on how to watch it? Can't find it on any of the usual streaming services. Thanks.
