If your library is designed as a safe space for bigots, you have made it unsafe for literally everyone else in your community

I am angry, because if Houston did not remove 1% of the HST and the toll removals for the bridges and Cobequid Pass, we would have the revenue to keep all of these programs for the Arts, Tourism, Culture in Nova Scotia. #NovaScotia #HoustonFail

Donβt let this government tell you this was just a small group of βprofessional protestors.β
This was massive collective action.
Keep going #nspoli
Pissing off the arts and culture community always spurs the creative protest juices.
The worst kept secret in librarianship is that we are actually the worst patrons, especially when it comes to returning things on time.
My maternal grandfather was a midlevel lifer in the RN & saw action in Korea.
My paternal grandfather was a Pacific theater vet turned librarian & author. Fun libraries fact: he was library director at Dewey's alma mater. Under his direction, they eliminated Dewey Decimal Classification for LCSH.
Incredible turnout at the rally in support of arts, culture, and community funding in front of the provincial legislature in Halifax, Nova Scotia
A screen capture of posters for ten different rallies to protest the NS budget. Details for each rally can be found at the link in this post.
Angry about the NS budget? There are rallies across the province this week. Find your rally here: www.nsarts.ca/join-a-rally...

New: With over 100 cyclists injuries last year, not to mention 67 vehicle-cyclist collisions between 2024-2025, the Halifax Cycling Coalition addressed the city's transportation standing committee this week.
They were met with silence.

They had enough room in the budget to get rid of bridge and highway tolls but canβt afford bus passes for kids?

Here he is so bloody incisive (yet again) in skewering todayβs Conservative Party of Canada on a spit.

Truly a sad day for Halifax beer culture, experimentation in brewing, and local business in general. All the best to the 2 Crows folks. Hope to stop in again before the doors close. 3/3
Since moving away from the core a few years ago, I've had fewer opportunities to drop in. I'd always make sure to stock up when I did. I'll dearly miss the days of stopping by with a book for a couple pints, perched on a stool overlooking the barrels, or chilling in the plants on the patio. 2/3
This hurts. Devastated to learn of the impending closure of 2 Crows brewing in Halifax. Few brewers are able to experiment with myriad styles & turn out a quality product every time: they were one of them. A stellar fleet of IPAs, among the top sours & wilds in NS, even strong old-world styles. 1/3
New 'elbows up' just dropped: Protecting our sovereignty by destroying our capacity to tell our country's history.
Ask any Canadian historian and they will tell you that things were already extremely dire at Library and Archives Canada. Not sure it will even be functional after this.
The most important long-term fiscally sustainable thing we can do is to enable sprawl repair in the suburbs. The more density we can put into suburban areas where it makes sense the better. Every community should have a main street and a mix of housing.
A move that will manage to make productivity and traffic worse.
how is everything so impossibly stupid
Sidewalk on a bridge
Lovely day for a bridge walk.
So counted cars heading into Halifax, 3/4 only had one person. This is the traffic problem Andy.
